About this project

The Music Initiative is a monthly, online magazine produced by a group of music enthusiasts yearning to broaden and expand each reader's music experience. Since coming together at the start of 2011, the 20+ talented individuals that make up the team have donated their time in creating this truly unique product. We are friends and fans, creators and listeners, and we hope that our passion for the work we do shines through the pages.

With this team of creative and vastly talented people working together on something they are so passionate about, new ideas for projects keep flowing. Of all these, there is one in particular that we know will offer something new, entertaining, and insightful for all who consider themselves music fans. With this said, we present to you the next phase of The Music Initiative:

A PILOT FOR THE NEW FACE OF MUSIC TELEVISION

With a constant flow of supremely talented musicians coming through our doors and a crew of professional Directors of Photography and producers on our team, it seems only natural for us to bring all these aspects of The Music Initiative together to provide you with a great product. Reminiscent of the heyday of music programs, like Austin City Limits and VH-1 Storytellers, this program brings back the intimate connection between musicians and listeners.

The pilot for this new music broadcast features nationally recognized musicians playing unplugged with an audience of 75-100 in one of the many unique sites that dot the Charleston area. This affords the viewer the opportunity to really get to know some of their favorite musicians and see them behind the scenes, jamming out, and basically doing what they do best without all the pomp and circumstance of regular large-scale venues.

The project features:

(1) Musicians playing a private show in various different locations.

  • The musicians slated to appear are classified as "working" musicians. Those who would be featured between the noon & 7pm time slots of a music festival.

(2) Filming and editing of the performances by nationally recognized professional Directors of Photography and editors.

  • We have planned for 4 High-Definition profession TV and Film broadcast production cameras, each manned by a professional cameraman with an onsite director of photography to ensure maximum quality.

(3) Behind the scenes Access.

  • With an intimate setting of less than 100 guests we are able to get to know the artists in a way that has been lost in recent years.
  • Footage of musicians in their down time, just hanging out and telling some stories from the road.
  • This pilot program gives fans a glimpse into the creative process of some of the nation’s most talented artists.

(4) Packaging of film and publishing on The Music Initiative’s YouTube Channel and website.

  • Accredited film and television editors capable of packaging the product in the best way possible will professionally edit the finalized product.
  • The pilot will then be available for distribution via Internet video-hosting sites (such as YouTube) as well as home entertainment (DVD).

This is a truly exciting opportunity for music fans across the country to get an inside look at the life of the working musician. It’s truly about getting back to the basics of music television. The pilot takes the features that made those music television programs of the 80s and 90s so great and uses the technology of today to capture and distribute. Any funds gained beyond our initial goal will go directly toward the production of subsequent episodes in the series, so please continue to give what you can.

It’s time to get back to the music, and that’s what it’s all about with The Music Initiative. With your support we can give a platform for nationally working musicians to rise to the next level of their career, and help keep the spirit of art and creativity alive.

Once again, we can’t thank you all enough for your support. You are allowing us to do what we love. What fuels us. The Music Initiative is honestly a labor of love for every single one of us involved with the magazine. It’s tough work, but the late nights and early mornings are all worth it, because we know we are making a difference. This is the product of a lot of planning and hard work, and your support in helping us bring this project to fruition means everything to us. Please consider how important music is, particularly in these trying times, and give what you can. Thank you in advance.
