The MADE's advisory board is made up of videogame historians, journalists and experts. The advisory board is specifically made up of people who watch the industry, rather than people who make the games. You can read all about us here: http://www.themade.org/content/what-are-we
Hi Gordon! We are not accepting physical donations until we have a space to put them in. Hopefully this fall. Maker Faire was fantastic, and I have been replying all day to people in SF city hall and in neighborhood alliances. Made some great connections!
Anyway, when we do start taking items for donation, we'll have some fairly loose guidelines, and we'll give you a tax writeoff.
Alternately, monetary donations can be made on our Website via PayPal, Amazon, and Google.
Good to see you guys at the MakerFaire!
Are you seeking donations for the Museum?
If so, so you have guidelines yet?
/Gordon
Just a quick word to say CONGRATS to the guys for completing this round of funding.
And as one of the major donors, given my industry history, I would never have donated to this project if I had any doubts about the industry pedigree associated with it. And if there is ever another fund drive - as long as The MADE remains true to its charter - I'll be there to donate again.
To show how serious I am, apart from money, I have already pledged my entire video game library worth quite a chunk of change, considering the classics in there. If they need them to build their library, it's theirs. I believe that, next to one or two institutions, I have one of the largest private collections of video games in the world and giving it to an unworthy cause is not something that I would do. You can see some pics over at http://www.dereksmart.org
I wouldn't do any of that if I had any doubts about the authenticity of this project.
I've been doing this for more than 22 years, shipped a lot of games (3 more on the way) and this is not the first industry related org than I am donating to. For my part, I take every chance I get to give back to an industry that has - through the ages and the crap - afforded me the luxury to pursue my dream.
Donate. Don't hate. See what I did there?
As to the trolls, ignoring them is an art form. This I know, first hand. :) At the end of the day, inconsequential rhetoric is just that : inconsequential.
Its no problem Andrew. That drama was unpleasant.
Thanks for the positive words of encouragement :)
I'm sorry to say with all the drama in the comments I decided against donating even though this is one of the most exciting and meaningful kickstarter projects.
Let me say... In these final hours of this fund raising drive. I have never been more proud of my gamer brethren then right now. Thanks again to all our backers.
Hi Rick.
Yes, The MADE is a 501c(3) non-profit organization. Any donations made to us -- including every donation made via Kickstarter here, is tax deductible.
We'll be sending out receipts to every donor once our Kickstarter project ends. Any employer-matching programs should be completely compatible with donations given to us -- and we would greatly appreciate the additional support!
Are you guys a registered non-profit? If so, my company would match my donation...
Thanks so much to our new donors! We are so close now!
I love Tropico 3!
OH, and the copies of Dungeon you see in the photos below are signed, so those are the $500+ level.
Hi Andrew. The Stickers are about 3 inches across and have our logo on them in green. The shirts you can see us all wearing in this photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/vonguard/5498158661/in/set-72157626073167019/ We have many sizes, so we'll ask people to specify the size they want.
The games can be seen at http://www.flickr.com/photos/vonguard/5580653064/in/stream and http://www.flickr.com/photos/vonguard/5580652072/in/stream
The games we have come from Kalypso Media and are the following games: Dark Star One: Broken Alliance, Tropico 3 Gold and expansions, The Patrician 4 and Disciples 3.
Hope that answers your questions.
We didn't know what games we were getting till they got here, so sorry for the lack of clarity there.
I am curious about the rewards. Any information on the sticker look/design, shirt size/design, the game? I was looking at donating $100, just curious about those items as they're listed but there's no information other than that.
Hey Oliver, while we'd love that space, it is waaaaaaay out of our initial price range. We have a feeling that will be empty for years, though. Maybe in a few years we can move in there. But at present, rent in that space is well over 5 figures per month. Know of any other good spaces?
Thanks for clearing this up. Now for another thing: did you have a look at the location of the former Virgin Megastore opposite of the Apple store? If affordable this would be the most amazing site ever for the MADE. More than enough room and you could have the museum stay open on nights when there is a queue in front of the Apple store.
It's kinda scary how many trolls have shown up to hate on us. Obviously, we're not a scam. This is kinda my life's dream, and it really hurts me that people are trying to destroy it with Internet drama. We are a real 501c3 non-profit EIN# 26-4570976 . Other than that, I don't want to waste everyones time getting into a fight on the Internet. Instead, I'm spending my day working on the IGDA preservation project, helping new volunteers find things to do, and recovering from a massive head cold.
Evidently, you can't do anything exciting or cool in this day and age, without trolls trying to crawl under your metaphorical bridges.
How do you respond to the allegations that this is a scam?
Hi guys and gals,
Just wanted to say keep up all the hard work to make your Dream come true. I for one is looking forward to going to the MADE. Cheers!
SO excited about this project! I was actually with some of the folks last week and we were checking out a space within three blocks of the MOMA center. So many awesome people are involved in this museum, can't wait to see the space when you guys are done!
This is a scam.

I'm just about to start a graduate degree in museum studies - if you guys need labor, free or (fingers crossed) otherwise, it would absolutely make my life to get involved!
Hey guys, sounds like a great idea, and I hope you can make this happen. A comment about the pledge levels, if it's possible, it seem like a good idea to offer more $25 level pledges, since that's the most popular. I guess you'll just have to have a bigger party to host everyone! Keep up the good work.
Alex (& Company) - Thanks a lot! That's really cool of you - enough to inspire me to double my donation. Can't wait to see it finished (hopefully at the pre-opening)!
Thank you RuneKey! You can follow us on twitter too! http://twitter.com/#!/TheMADEsf
About a month to go, and there's still 5 grand to be pledged. I'll be sure to tell my friends and tweet this; anything to help you guys out
This Museum is going to be so Great. I'm looking forward to getting my Game on there. Can't wait to play some of the old classic games.
Keep up the good work people.
@Izzy Glad to hear we made such a good impression. Hope we see you at the museum soon!
We had a great time at GDC this week! Thanks to everyone who signed our developer tree!
Thanks for all the support everyone! We're almost there.
My friend was at GDC and told me how much he loved your exhibit and he told me about your page on Kickstarter. i think what you are and will do is really great. Good luck and I'm looking forward to visiting your museum when it opens!
And thank you for the support Chris.
I agree. Alex is a top notch person that will make hard decisions when necessary, and will always do whats best for the museum. It's why he has my full support.
Lets move on to building a world class museum. Not rehashing old grievances.
The ACCRC drama should have nothing to do with this project. Alex is not and has never been a thief. There are former ACCRC employees that sit on the board of the MADE. That should speak more to Alex's integrity than the words of the disgraced (and ousted) former ED of the ACCRC.
The ACCRC exists today to the credit of Alex's efforts. He made hard decisions that weren't popular with everyone involved, but were necessary. That's the kind of leadership a non-profit needs.
*sigh* I did not want to get into this here, but at the behest of the rest of the MADE volunteers, I am posting this response to Mr. James Burgett. He was once a man I considered a friend, but after he attempted to murder his wife on the grounds of his non-profit, that friendship ended. She is now running the ACCRC and he is no longer associated with it in any way, according to her.
The man has a personal vendetta against me, and probably 100's of other former volunteers from his organization. It's a pattern with him.
If you want to read my (lengthy) side of the story, you can head over to http://blog.gism.net/2011/03/06/james-burgett-is-a-spousal-abuser/ to read about him and his transgressions.
This is going to be awesome when it goes live. In the words of SARK-ES-1117821 from Tron:
"Niiiiiiiice."
Have $10.
To clarify: the place referenced by "Gazoo" is an electronics recycling center, where old computers and electronics are turned into scrap metals, plastics and fibers.
Surprisingly little! Most actually came from the Laney College flea market. The ACCRC actually rarely got anything unique or rare from the game world.
just a quick question:
How much of the collection did alex steal from ACCRC.org?
http://www.themade.org and http://blog.themade.org have relaunched today. Still rudimentary, but a vast improvement, don't you agree?
Bonne chance to Alex, Nealon, and all the other members of MADE.
Just filled with excitement, had to post a comment:
We are building you the organization you all deserve. This institution will stand for years, thanks to your help! We are going to build something great, here, and I am overjoyed to see just how enthusiastic all of you have been. Volunteers are coming out of the woodwork, and we're experiencing a phenomenon called "overwhelming opportunity!" It's time for this to happen, and we're absolutely going to do it, thanks to all of you!
Hey Tom, we'll put your name on the site, don't worry. We'll send you a sticker too, and you do get a free admission. When you do come out, I'll buy you a beer or two as well, kk?
Thanks so much Jack , William, Tom, and Thom. Your support means a lot.
William: Lets talk about what you can do to help MADE. Your blog is wonderful! Email nealon@made.org plz
Tom: I will ask Alex about your question, and thanks for the support.
Thom: Thank you :) Hope to see you there on opening day!
Fantastic stuff! I'm proud to be a donor, and can't wait for opening day...
Threw in some bucks, glad to lend a hand to help preserve our gaming heritage. If you need further help with research or need a booking, let me know:

Hello,
I just found out about your organization and made a $25 pledge. I was just wondering, upon re-reading that particular pledge - it (unlike the others) doesn't have an "all of the above" mention. Does that mean that I would or would not get listed in the donors section & get a museum ticket? I'm asking mainly because I don't live anywhere near San Francisco and so there's a fair chance I won't be able to make it to the pre-opening party (at least, I won't be able to work out the logistics of trying until the date is determined).
I think this is a fantastic idea and wish you all the best of luck!
Thank you,
- Tom Jennings
I'm going to spread the word. I know lots of Geeks out there that would love this place.
Keep up the good work Nealon.
Thanks for the support Jeremiah. We will get back to you soon about what you can do to help out MADE. The bay area is a wonderful place to visit too :)
I cannot tell you how excited I am to see a video/computer game museum in the works. To show people the rich history and culture of the games we so dearly cherish, as well as the blood and sweat poured into the development process, is simply too awesome to even imagine. I anticipate the day MADE opens to the public.
However, it does break my heart I live all the way in Washington state, and therefore cannot be of much assistance. I have made a pledge, joined the mailing list, and will spread the word of your cause, but please, if there is anything else I can do all the way up here, I want to help as much as humanly possible.
Good Luck, dudes!
Just wanted to give a big thank you to all the new backers. Thanks so much for supporting MADE :)
