Update #6: The Album Is Finished!!

Posted on February 18, 2010

Hi Everyone,

We're really excited to say that our full-length album is completely finished! It was an awesome experience from beginning to end and we're incredibly thankful for your support in helping us make it happen. The album is entitled "Teeth" and has 10 songs, two of which are featured in this post ("Helen" and "The Middle Distance").

We recorded at Maverick Studios in Chinatown with producer Allen Farmelo and sound engineer Sean O'Brien. Those five days in the studio were a combination of exhilarating, exhausting, and spooky (we recorded during Halloween). Maverick was an awesome space to record in, everything in the room sounded so clear and spacious. We did a lot of songs live, which we were really happy about since it felt more real than sitting in a soundproof booth. Alot of the songs got re-created and re-worked and we experimented with different instruments, random tunings, song layouts, etc. And the place kind of turned into our home while we were there. We had lots of late nights and early mornings and random jam sessions and plenty, plenty of strange Chinese food.

After recording we did overdubs and mixing at Allen's recording pad in Fort Greene. Once the mixing was done, the album was transferred to analog tape at Cowboy Technical Services Recording Rig (to add another layer of varnish, as Allen would say). Then it was mastered by Matt Agoglia at Howie Weinberg's Masterdisk. The beautiful album art was created by Asthmatic Kitty artist DM Stith (www.dmstith.com) who we are a huge fan of and you should be too.

A huge thanks goes out to Allen for the millions of hours of tireless labor he put in with us. Also thanks to Sean and Matt for their helping hand along the way, and to DM Stith for the artwork. And thanks so much to you, our fans and friends on Kickstarter, who made this happen with your support!

Now that the album is finished, we're currently reaching out to hopefully find a good fit with a label to work with. Once something happens in that department and once there's an official release date for the album, we'll reach back out to all of you so that we can send you your well-deserved reward that you pledged for on Kickstarter, whether it's an Album/T-shirt/Digital Bonus Track/etc!

See below for some pics of our celebratory "holy moses our album is finished, let's have a big feast" at Alex's place of work the Breslin. Yes, we had many shots, and yes, they were accompanied by chasers of pickle juice.

Thanks again everyone!!

Update #5: Just finished our studio session!

Posted on November 3, 2009

Hey everyone,

Thanks to your support, we just finished five days in the recording studio and laid down all 10 tracks to our album!! It was an awesome experience, and many thanks to the support of Allen Farmelo, our producer and engineer, and Sean O'Brien, the assistant engineer. Also thanks to Maverick Studios for having such a nice space to work in and such great acoustics. Honestly, we are still reeling by how much we got done in such little time and how much of a joyful, challenging, and real experience it was. We're really proud of this record and we can't wait to share it with you all.

FOUR DAYS LEFT TO RAISE $2,000!!

Thank you all so much again for helping us meet our initial fundraising goal.

So far, we've raised $4,000 from our EP sales and shows, and through your donations, we've raised an additional $3,480!

Now we've got four days left to raise the final $2,000!

This will go towards the mixing, mastering, and pressing of the album!

Any donation that you can give is incredibly appreciated, and thank you so much for all of your support.

Update #3: T-Shirts!

Posted on October 22, 2009

We just got our Loom T-shirts! They look quite very nice. They're printed locally on American Apparel shirts by a mom & pop silkscreen factory (good cause).

There are two colors - Seafoam Green (v-neck) and Brown (crew). See below for the photos. The design was created by our very own horn player Lis Rubard.

If you pledge $50 you can get one of these T-shirts plus a signed copy of our album. We've got 10 days to keep fundraising - thanks again for all your support!!

Update #2: Got our first goal! Can we raise $1000 more in a week?

Posted on October 5, 2009

Great news! We just reached - and already surpassed - our initial fundraising goal of $2500! Thank you so much for your support, this is getting us really excited to make this record.
Our Kickstarter fundraising project isn't over until November 1, so that means we still have time to keep raising funds. If we get $1000 more by the end of the week, we can cover the mixing of half the songs for the record. Let's do it!

And in the meantime, as a little "teaser" for the real thing, here is a *very* rough demo of one of the songs that will likely be on our record. It's called "The First Freeze".

After releasing their debut EP, "At Last Light", in 2008, The Loom toured the northeast US and Canada and played CMJ Music Festival and Pop Montreal. In their shows on the road and at home, they shared bills with Rock Plaza Central, O'Death, Julie Doiron, Headlights, Evangelicals, Neva Dinova, Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson, Festival, The Antlers, Sharon Van Etten, These United States, and many more. Music from “At Last Light” has appeared on "Good Morning America" and MTV's "Subterranean" as well as in “The Youngest Candidate" (along with music by Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson and others), a documentary about young Americans running for political office directed by Brooklyn filmmaker Jason Pollock (former assistant to Michael Moore) and produced by Lawrence Bender (“An Inconvenient Truth”) and David Letterman’s production company World Wide Pants. The film was released in the fall of 2008 and the soundtrack will see national release this fall with album art by Shepard Fairey.

The Loom is currently recording a full-length album set for completion in fall 2009, and they plan to follow its release with a national tour.
