A quarterly print journal for work that's raunchy, flamboyant, interdisciplinary, and intellectually rigorous.
The Skeleton News was a monthly Chicago-based free paper, published from 2006 to 2008. This fall, a few of the editors of The Skeleton got together and started talking about a new publishing project. We gathered up a brilliant crew of writers, artists, and musicians and got to work on The Land Line. Our first issue includes essays on crack versus powder cocaine sentencing disparities, writer Sheridan Le Fanu and sleep paralysis, and labor organizing by strippers and televised wrestlers, along with new poetry and comics by some of the best writers and artists we know.
The journal is put together by a loose collective of staunch amateurs, distributed for free, and free of ads. We do layout by hand and print on newsprint, black and white, tabloid format. Our first issue is due out on January 1st, 2012, but we can’t do it without your help. We all put in hundreds of unpaid hours to make the paper because we believe that The Land Line is an important contribution to our community. Each issue costs over $1,000 to print and distribute, and every donation counts. If we can raise $2,000, we'll be able to cover the costs for our first two issues. We're all feeling giddy about the debut of The Land Line and hope you'll be a part of the project.
