We've been refreshing the page all day . . .
. . . and we're proud to say that our Kickstarter family has officially grown to 2,000 members!
Quick progress report: The latest USB flash drive prototypes arrived this week, still a few more tweaks to go but everything is still on schedule. We've begun the process of FCC and EC testing for the USB sticks. Software development is also progressing on schedule for early release. The shirts however just haven't wowed us yet, so we met with a new design shop this week in Austin. Their artists and passion impressed us and we've asked them to work their magic on the design and production.
In last weeks update, "Jumpshot vs. New Retail PC", we walked you through running Jumpshot on a newly purchased HP Envy Ultrabook, freeing it of pre-installed grime. We'll pick up where we left off, with a demonstration of the revert functionality. If for any reason, you're unhappy with the changes Jumpshot has made, it's easy to undo.
To demonstrate this, let's first start by launching the Jumpshot app on our newly cleansed desktop. Whether you purchased one of our USB sticks, were handed a CD made by a friend, or downloaded the app during early access... you'll start by launching Jumpshot.exe:

Clicking "Jumpshot this computer" prepares the PC for sedation on next reboot. If you're running from USB or CD this step takes seconds. If you're running straight from a web download, then this step will take longer as more content must be fetched. Once the PC reboots, the sedation process kicks off which can take from 30 to 90 seconds depending on system specs. Once sedated you are welcomed back and asked to log in:

After logging in, you're presented with the following screen:

Notice the karma in the top left corner. Last week we started at 0 and earned 93 karma for all the bloatware we removed from the HP Envy. Karma is cumulative and increases after each and every use of Jumpshot.
Also notice the "Undo last Jumpshot" blue button at the bottom. We click the button and Maximus asks us to confirm our intentions:

Once we confirm by selecting "Revert", all the changes made from our last Jumpshot session are reversed and the PC reboots back into Windows. In this case, all the grime is restored as you can see:

It's that easy to undo.
You guys have given us great feedback on a variety of subjects. How about this week's bear caption? Leave your best one-liner for this week's action shot in the comment section of this page. We'll post our favorite in the next update.
Looking forward to reading your captions.

@garja: Jumpshot needs 500MB of free space on the HD that Windows is installed on. Is the extra HD space on another disk? If this not the case, we'll have to coordinate a support tunnel to investigate. Open a bug report at http://backers.jumpshot.com so we can track the issue properly.
Creator garja on January 18
Tried to use on a friends comp today. Said I had insufficient space (500mb), but there is plenty of hd available. Suggestions?
Creator Jumpshot on August 11, 2012
@urnotryan: great question, we can indeed detect and prevent such trickery! Karma will be granted only once, whether you restore via Jumpshot or some other means (ghosting the disk image, using a virtual machine, etc).
Creator urnotryan on August 11, 2012
Say you remove bloatware and earn 92 points, and then revert your system; is jumpshot smart enough to recognize it is repeating the same actions to prevent rewarding another 92 points ad infinitum? Or does it just subtract all the Karna points? We don't want people gaming the system and creating karma-inflation.
Creator Jumpshot on August 10, 2012
@Jason: Thanks for the suggestions! Can you clarify what you mean by #1? Regarding #2, those are both features we have on our long list of exciting future developments.
Creator Jason Walker on August 10, 2012
I would like to add two ideas.
#1 recurring installed would be awesome. That way a User might run it once a month or whatever and we would know about it. That way we do not need to be there for simple clean ups.
#2 I think a link to team viewer or remote assist. That way if it is more tricky, we can help.
Creator Jumpshot on August 8, 2012
@Jason: Thank you very much. You could always give the USB key to a friend or family member in need ;-)
Creator Jumpshot on August 8, 2012
@Aleksander Currently, the only way to run Jumpshot is manually from the web, or by using a USB/CD. A recurring built in Jumpshot is a great idea though, and technically possible for us to add in if enough of our backers would want it.
Creator Jumpshot on August 8, 2012
@Jason We hope you use it often and spread it wide and far to friends. Hopefully the Karma system will let you enjoy the experience more as well.
Creator Aleksander on August 8, 2012
Will it be possible to automate certain actions or checkups?
Like say defrag hard drive and clear temporary files once a month or something along those lines?
Creator Jason Walker on August 8, 2012
I am very excited about this, I use glary a lot for easy 1-click cleanup. But the reporting/update/restart is really nice. I am not sure how often I will use the usb key but I am sure I will use it more than hiren's
Creator Jumpshot on August 7, 2012
@Jim LOL, poor Nana. For a future feature, we may implement true uninstallers for bloatware and other software in order to free up disk space. We can also eventually detect unused software and offer to wipe that as well. We don't currently have that functionality built in to the first version of Jumpshot, so for now Nana will need to delete some of those pics.
Creator Jim Murray on August 7, 2012
So if you are not going to erase the bloatware, is that something that will be included in the quarantine that can be deleted at some later point?
If not, will there be a check at some point, say from Dr. Liza, that will advise on possible orphaned software (software in program files directory but no associated registry keys), trialware (thinking old AOL or MS Office type trials that typically come on new systems), or, even as you mentioned, the software that was associated with the bloatware that you prevented from running at boot. This kind of stuff might eat up disk space that I want to get back because my Nana needs additional space for the 24,000 photos she took of her thumb while she was trying to figure out how to work her new-fangled digital camera, and she won't erase them because it was just too cute!
Sorry, this is why I am donating to Jumpshot. The therapy by itself is just not going to cut it.
Creator Jumpshot on August 5, 2012
@Dennis: We don't erase bloatware, we prevent it from loading automatically at boot. Essentially unlinking it from the boot process. Only quarantined items are backed up for restore. We do clear temporary files that can not be restored with a revert, but those are only from scratch areas that won't be missed regardless. Jumpshot checks for necessary minimum disk space and if enough is not available, the software will let you know and refuse to run.
Creator Dennis Schweer on August 5, 2012
@Jumpshot: Where are you going to safe the grime erased form my hard drive???
Let's say Jumpshot erases 10 GB of preloaded trail software. Where are you going to safe these 10 GB for the case that I want to undo the jumpshot????

@Jumpshot: Thanks for responding! As a fellow sufferer of PTSD, I usually end up disabling quite a bit in MSCONFIG, and it's very much a trial and error process. Thus, my curiousity. Again, thanks for the response! I'm really excited to try out Jumpshot, and I hope that it really is the cure for this terrible disease.

Creator Jumpshot on August 3, 2012
@lions: If we disable / remove something useful we want to hear about it and discuss it further. For the most part, we're trying to remove only what you really don't need. Our initial focused audience is the end user. Our mothers and fathers who just need an automated fix for a variety of their typical problems. Once we get a handle on that we'll switch gears to cater to the advanced users. We've got a lot of aspirations for what the advanced interface will be.

They said Jumpshot would sedate only my computer...
Creator lions on August 3, 2012
Would it be possible to undo some of the changes made? I would imagine not, but it seems to me that it would be a shame if Jumpshot disabled/removed something someone found useful, and then they had to put all of the grime back on their computer because of that one program.
