The Glass Ceiling tells the dramatic untold story of Pasang Lhamu Sherpa's quest to become the first Sherpa woman to summit Mt. Everest
About the Film
The Glass Ceiling tells the dramatic untold story of Pasang Lhamu Sherpa's quest to become the first Sherpa woman to summit Mt. Everest. On April 22, 1993, Pasang Lhamu Sherpa finally reached the summit of Mt. Everest. Her controversial quest to claim the infamous peak captivated the nation. Admiration for this true Nepali heroine and her mountaineering legacy continues to inspire generations of Nepalis who seek to push beyond traditional boundaries. The Glass Ceiling tells the inspiring, dramatic story of Pasang's struggle against – and victory over – astonishing obstacles.
Who's Making this Film?
The Follow Your Dream Foundation is a not for profit 501c3 established in June 2009 to serve as a platform for sharing stories of courageous women worldwide. Nancy Svendsen, President of the Foundaiton, is a first time director with a great passion to share Pasang's story. Donations over $100 are tax deductible.
Our Goal for this Funding
Our goal for this fundraising campaign is to complete a "rough cut" extended trailer to be used in additonal fundraising and grant writing to complete the entire feature film. The money from this campaign will go directly towards completing the editing of the extended trailer - as well as for completing an interview with Pasang's daughter and brother not yet captured on film.
A Message from the Director, Nancy Svendsen
All my life - I have been inspired by listening to and telling stories. I believe film is a magnificent way of sharing stories on a global scale - and the story of Pasang Lhamu Sherpa deserves to be heard around the world. Pasang, an uneducated minority woman, rose from a male dominated culture to claim the Sherpa woman's right to compete in a male dominated sport. She shattered cultural boundaries by convincing her government to grant the first Everest permit to a Nepali sponsored expedition - hers! When I first saw her on film - she seemed to reach out across the time and space and speak to me. She continues to inspire me with her courage, persistence and passion. I hope you will join in supporting my efforts to tell Pasang's story.
