Yes, we did it! CORRECTION: Yes, you did it!
This is just a quick post to say that, yes, you did it! You made the Postcard Story a success, and because of you we'll be sending postcards full of art and story to all of you (and to a number of you who don't know you're part of the story yet, because your friends will soon sign you up to receive said cards against your will)!
Of course, many of you know that we succeeded in raising our initial goal in just over two days. We knew that the project was going to be funded... but in truth, the funding was only ever half the purpose of using Kickstarter. The other half was getting a group of people together to send our art/story collaboration to. And that's where you came in!
Because of you, we'll be sending out 2008 postcards to 502 people (you know who they are -- or at least you know who one or three of them are). That's more readership than a lot of literary magazines get, and a pretty sizable turnout for a gallery showing (which would also end up being a significant amount of wine and cheese). We hope you're happy.
Because we are ecstatic!
We have to wait two weeks or so for the payments to process, and once that happens we'll start getting the postcards and the ephemera out to you. All of those who paid a little bit more for the extras, expect those extras (letters, books, and pictures) anytime after that date. Right now, we're pretty sure we'll have the postcards and everything else mailed out long before October rolls around in its Rolls Royce asking us to roll along now, but we wanted to make sure that we didn't have to rush to get the best looking (and reading) Postcard Story to you.
To that event, expect updates as we get closer and closer to completion. There may not be many, but we'll definitely be letting you know when we hit major milestones.
As for the rewards themselves, we'll also be sending out forms through Kickstarter to collect the info we'll need to get your postcards (and your extras) to you.
But for now, Ashley and Megan and I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for believing in us and in our project.

At this level you get good feelings and congratulation from both myself and yourself. You want to support Art & Literature but you don't want to see evidence of it in your mailbox. You're shy, but giving, and you have too much stuff to read and look at already. I understand.

You get a postcard! Well, technically, you get four postcards, because that's how many it's going to take to tell this story. Also, you'll get four photographs. Okay, really, what you're getting here is the project itself. IN YOUR OWN HOT, LITTLE HANDS!

Postcards for you and two of your friends + A letter of your very own, from Andrew, to you, that will be at least two pages long and full of... well, stuff. Probably random stuff, but stuff all the same. And isn't stuff what we all really, deep down, want? Well, that and postcards.

Postcards for you and two of your friends + a copy of CITY OF REGRET (Zone 3 Press, 2007), Andrew's very own book of poetry that he wrote by himself with no help from anyone whatsoever. Except all the teachers he's ever had, all the books he's ever read, and the other poets who've helped him along the way. Other than that, though, his book is a complete non-collaboration.

Postcards for you and two of your friends + Congratulations! You have funded the project! I am so excited and, wait, what? You want me to write a new, completely different story for the project? One based around your own three-word theme? Well, crap. I didn't know this was going to be so much work. (So, in essence, YOU will give me the prompt and I will write a new story based around the words you give me. The story will be 500 words or less so that it will be able to comfortably fit on the requisite four postcards. And we want the story to be comfortable, don't we?)

Postcards for you and two of your friends + I (i.e., Ashley) will take your portrait in the style of my (i.e., Still Ashley) work. This image may look strange to you, dependent on your outlook. But if you want a professional artistic portrait of yourself that is subject to the professional artistic whims of an artist, and you're in Houston or live within a few hours drive or want to fly down here, then this pledge level is for you! (And you only, because there's only one of these pledge rewards and it's going slow!) It's also fine if you want to fly me to wherever you are, but you have to get me home, too. You'll get a large print of the portrait and you'll be famous. Well, you'll get a large print. Sizing negotiable, but something upwards of 11x14, plus a decent sized digital scan of the image.

Postcards for you and two of your friends + I will write biographies of you and your two friends inspired by your respective names. These will be stories in the form of a biography and will be at least a thousand words long. These stories will be dedicated to you (well, your name will be in the title) and, though I will hold all rights to them, it will be your choice as to whether you secrete the story in your backyard in a stainless steel time capsule OR order me to release the story into the creative commons wilderness OR direct me to try and get the story published in an actual magazine. The question you need to ask yourself is this: Do you wish the fame epitomized by your very name to be spread far and wide across the land? Granted, this fame will be a lie, but if it makes you feel better, just realize that all of history is a lie, or so Mr. MacGruder, my high school history teacher told me. And, no, that never made me feel any better, either. (Hi, Mr. MacGruder!)

Of all of the Kickstarters I've supported, this one definitely has made me giggle the most. I love postcards in the mail and can't wait to read your story!
Congratulations.
