We are The Dollyrots. We might be your favorite band, we might be new to you. Either way, we're ready to record a 4th studio album and need you to make it a reality! This time we're doing it completely on our own without a label so we'll be relying on our amazing fans to pledge their support (along with what we've saved up) to be able to record. The songs have been written over the past year as we've toured the country and met many of you, and now's the time to bring them to life. We've picked our top ten favorites from 25 demos and feel really good about them & know you'll love them as much as we do!
The producer, John Fields, is a studio wizard & recorded our previous albums Because I'm Awesome and Eat My Heart Out. He's on board for this one too and we're SO excited to be working with him again.
So how does a new album get made? Well, recording music can get pricey but we've done this enough times that we know what to expect and how to make the most of our time and resources. We came up with a plan & budget so you know exactly where proceeds from the fundraiser will go. It's all for recording and the studio:
- Studio: $500 per day, on average. This includes just the per-day studio rate, not the engineers, drum tuning, guitar setups, and equipment rental. We can expect to get through basic tracks on 2 songs per day, so if we buckle down for 5 days we can probably cut 10 great songs. Total: $2,500
- Recording & Mixing: We're dedicating $4,000 of the budget to this, as it's the most important part of making an album. There are tons of technical decisions to be made, wires to plug in, and mics to be placed perfectly to make a song come to life. After it's recorded it will all be edited down, track by track for each song. The grand total for this will be much more and we'll fund that with our savings, but it would be amazing if our fans can be a part of committing our performances to tape.
- Mastering: $1000 for the entire album, minimum. This is the part where our record gets the final touch before hitting the interwebs, radio, and your CDs & vinyl. It allows our songs to be as loud, punchy, and sparkly sounding as anything else out there. We're planning to take it to a reputable mastering house that worked on one of our previous albums.
...and that doesn't include music videos, artwork, getting CDs or vinyl pressed, distribution, touring, and promotion! But your support will cover the basics and make it possible for us have the most important part finished first - the music. All funds will go straight into making this album. Any extra will go into additional songs, promotion, and bonuses for our backers as we hit new goals. In short, we'll be able to deliver a much better album to YOU, our fans.

We know times are hard for everyone and being an artist in this climate is a challenge...but we truly love doing this and want to give you at least one more album. Every single penny will go straight into making the studio knobs and strings and mics capture the best we've got to give.
If we reach or surpass our goal and have leftover funds, anything extra will go directly into recording more music and/or promotion. That could mean another original song or it could mean putting our touch on a favorite cover. We'll send ALL backers FREE mp3s of any extra songs recorded if that happens!

Yes! Anyone who pledges over $100 will automatically be listed in the album's CD liner notes under the "thank you" section.

We're offering vinyl exclusively to our backers for $10, shipping including. Simply add $10 to your current pledge without changing your reward. We'll send all of our backers a message after the project is completed to make sure that's what the additional $10 is intended for.

First off, we miss our UK & Irish fans a ton! Last October was a blast and we hope to get back to after this album is released. Shipping to you is slightly extra; please add an additional $5 USD to your pledge if you'd like the "Oh Yeah" Pack by itself, and $10 USD for any package priced up to $75. Just so everyone knows...you won't part ways with your pledge until AFTER the project finishes at 6:02pm on Wednesday, October 12th. It'll take a couple weeks after that for things to be processed and us to actually receive the funds, but we'll start recording before then knowing we've reached our first goal!

The Dollyrots, comprised of Kelly Ogden (bass/vocals), Luis Cabezas (guitar) and Chris Black (drums), was originally founded by childhood friends Ogden and Cabezas in their native Florida. The pair decided to move to Los Angeles in 2002 and eventually saw the addition of drummer Black. The band has released three full length albums (Eat My Heart Out, Because I’m Awesome, and A Little Messed Up) and several singles and EPs through the Lookout, Blackheart, and Brando record labels. The trio has logged tens of thousands of miles and played hundreds of shows in the U.S. and abroad while touring consistently for the past 8 years. They're now gearing up to head back into the studio to record their fourth full length album with the support of their fans.
