Photo-main

It was supposed to be a joke, texts of dirty haiku to a friend. Now it's dirty haiku meets fine photography with over 50 volunteers.

I love texting haiku. It forces me to be creative even if all I have to say is, "I miss you."

"It is not easy,

To think about you always.

I am left bereft."

That one's my favorite. Not dirty at all but it's a good example of a haiku text. So I went to cheer a friend by sending him dirty haiku. It was super fun. I wrote ten in the first day alone. Soons I started writing them in a tiny red leather book, showed them to others and watched the blood rise to their cheeks. I listed to them being read aloud and felt myself turn bright red to match the book's cover. It was too much fun to keep it to myself.

Soon after I asked Rob Liliedahl of Liliedahl Imaging if he'd be interested of taking pictures of my friends in their underwear. Now that I say that, I realize how odd of a question that is. But after explaining about the haiku I then explained that I was looking to take the poetry a step further and write on people's skin to create art. Rob is a phenomenal photographer and I knew he could capture what was in my head a thousand times better than me guessing with a camera for hours on end.

We did tests on two very dear friends. We thought, hmmm... maybe we can shoot around 20 shots and then have a nice little art show. We looked for about 10 volunteers and, so far, we have over 40. We thought maybe one shoot. As of today, June 4th, 2012, we have eight shoots splanned, each with 5-10 images to be recorded, including a live shoot at House of Loom in Omaha, Nebraska during our second planned First Friday Art Walk showing. The *first* art show was booked at Jake's Cigars & Spirits in Lincoln, Nebraska, June 1, 2012, and it was standing room only from 4 pm until 2am when the bar closed. In 2013 we are planning on having a national touring art show and, hopefully within a year, a coffee table book.

The amount we're asking for, $4,000, is just for the art shows we have planned for 2012 in Nebraska.  The images are expensive to create as they are gallery quality prints on metallic paper (it makes everyone's skin GLOW) that are then heavily lacquered and mounted on art board. The merchandise, as it is all photography based, can also get pricey (greeting cards, two 12 month calendars, bumper stickers, tee shirts, ranging from $5 to $15 each to produce, usually with a minimum order of 100 items). Then there's shipping, giving our volunteer models thank you gifts, travel expenses for art shows that are close to home and the continuing cost of finishing the project.

If we're going to take this thing on the road and visit everyone in major cities all over the country (we're already looking at New Orleans, Chicago, LA and NYC for 2013) it's going to take quite a bit more. If we reach $10K Rob and I will both be able to attend each and every Art Walk wherever we end up. Now, we're willing to work hard on our own to reach this number through sales and savings but we will also take all the help we can get. The higher the end result, the more places (and people!) we can visit.

So, in advance, Thank you, with all my heart. Always.

Sincerely,

Heather A. Sticka
