1010 WINS New York News Radio interview with Brian from TCG:
The Official "The Cookie Guild Kickstarter" FAQ:
Who are you?
Kurt Schewe & Brian Matheron. We are two guys from Silver Spring/Takoma Park, Maryland.

We went to the same high school, Montgomery Blair (you may have seen it here:
We both moved to New York to do the New York thing and pursue our respective dreams. Now we're ACTUALLY doing the New York thing and pursuing a common dream, to operate and own a bakery business!
Why cookies?
Kurt has had a passion for cooking and baking his whole life. He moved to New York and graduated from the French Culinary Institute. After working in kitchens, he finally decided to go after his dream of eventually owning his own bakery cafe. He started baking cookies out of his kitchen (with then-roommate Brian as a very eager taste-tester) and selling at the Brooklyn Flea.
Brian has always loved eating and has been a hobbist-gourmet since he decided he was tired of eating frozen microwave meals every day after school. He has worked in sales and sales management since high school. His passion in life has always been interacting with people. Tired of with working for large corporations (and driven by the prospect of free cookies), Brian decided he would help Kurt with the business end of The Cookie Guild.
How did you come up with beer cookies?
The two were checking out packaging design one day at a gourmet grocery store. They both were unimpressed by the myriad of cutesy packaging in the baked goods section. Brian, a craft beer enthusiast, suggested that they look in the beer section. The colorful, creative logos filled their heads with tons of ideas for design, branding and marketing... and then it struck. Brian asked if Kurt could make a cookie with beer in it. Kurt balked at the idea at first, but managed to figure out a process to get a lot of boozy liquid into a liquid-less dough. After many trials, the first beer cookie was born!
Why do you need the money?
- Kitchen Help. Kurt is a fantastic baker, however we haven't figured out how to clone him. Brian is good for two things in the kitchen; scooping cookies and complaining.
- Transportation. Kurt does not like carrying everything around on his back in the subway.
- Logo design & branding. So we can look as good as we taste... I mean our cookies taste.
- A retail website. so you can order our goodies anywhere!
- Packaging. For markets, orders and for our newly planned beer-infused chocolate syrups, caramels, and other various ale-inspired sweet sauces.
Why give money to you instead of all the other little bakeries popping up all over?
We really value quality and innovation, but more important than that, we value creating relationships with our customers. We don't want to be another fad-food. We want to adapt and grow with our customers, and maybe even surprise them sometimes with something wonderful.
What's your plan for the future?
We have a simple plan: listen to our customers, keep making delicious & exciting products, and take it slow. We know customer feedback is the most important thing a company can get, so we plan on collecting as much of it as we can. We also know that people want consistent quality. To us this means our products must be interesting, exciting, and most importantly, delicious. Finally, we want to be around for a long time. We love all the exciting food-fads that pop up all over New York, but we both hold our neighborhood bakeries in higher esteem. Our hope is to eventually open up a brick-and-mortar bakery cafe that will become a neighborhood institution.
That sounds great and all, but how are you going achieve your goals?
1. Continuing to scale up slowly so we can preserve quality. Scaling up not only in amount produced, but also adding new product lines, such as bottling our sweetened beer syrups.

2. Expanding our presence by attending more markets, food events, and catering.

3. Making it easier to get our products by selling wholesale to quality goods grocers, cafes, and restaurants.
4. Launching a retail website so that people from all over can experience our products.
5. Continuing to solicit and implement customer feedback to create new, innovative products
You guys don't seem like you're in front of a camera much. Are there outtakes?
Ummmm....
