Winship Wheatley (Resident SOTA musician) + Joel Bays (singer songwriter and sailor) NEED YOU to put out their new album!
WHO WE ARE:
My name is Winship Wheatley. I’m a singer songwriter and Resident Musician at The Studio of the Arts (www.sotaspace.org) in Annapolis, MD. During my residency, I've been honing my skills in voice, guitar, drums, and keyboard, while collaborating with singer songwriter Joel Bays on a full length album for our band, The Audissey.
We're professional musicians who want to continually write music, record, and perform, using the platform of music to have a positive influence on culture.
We're also childhood friends and Annapolis natives, who've been writing music together since middle school for the several bands we've started. Past success includes having a band that after 3 months of playing together won the Anne Arundel County High School Battle of the Bands. Besides the honor of that title, this competition also won us admission to the Mid-Atlantic Music Conference where we met producers for Aerosmith, U2, and other major names. We also won a $1,000 scholarship for our school's music program (In all, our music actually went on to raise several thousand dollars for the Annapolis Highschool Performing Arts Center) and we headlined the major Annapolis New Year's Eve event called First Night Annapolis. We landed spots on radio stations, as well handfuls of write-ups in local papers (sample of write-up: http://bayweekly.com/old-site/year03/issuexi52/musicxi52.html), including a two page spread with photos in the Bay Weekly.
WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH:
Older, wiser, and all the more passionate about creating music, our current project is to raise the funds to pay for the following--
1. Getting our album mixed and mastered so it's finished in a professional manner and sounds good wherever it's played
2. After that we'll be able to sell our album digitally, but we think its important to also offer a limited amount of CDs
3. That CD will need a cover, which needs to visually explain who we are. So we'd like to hire another SOTA artist and graphic designer to brand us (logo, website, album artwork)
4. To play our album live, we're going to need additional equipment. Gear that works in the recording studio isn't the same gear we need for playing live. Things like guitar pedals, midi triggers, a keyboard, as well as needing a sound engineer for live performances
5. Also for live performances, well need the professional musicians who have already donated so much of their time and talent to our album. So we'd like to use some of the money we raise to pay these professional musicians initially. After that our performances will then provide the funds to pay them.
6. And finally, we have to pay for studio rent. This is where the album was written and recorded, and this will be our practice space for live shows.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
1. Donate whatever dollar amount you can. No donation is too small! Kickstarter will allow us to raise far beyond the $8,500, but we have to reach AT LEAST our goal amount of $8,500 or else we get nothing, zero, zilch.
2. Facebook "LIKE" our kickstarter video.
3. GO TO OUR FACEBOOK PAGE and like that too: http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Audissey/270267606327905
4. Tweet about our kickstarter video.
5. Embed our kickstarter video on your blog or website.
6. Email at least 10 people with our kickstarter video link.
7. Email The Audissey (TheAudissey@gmail.com) if you have a good idea for how you can help!
WHY YOU SHOULD HELP:
1. With every donation we're going to give you a fun treat as our way of saying "Thank you!" We want to give you our music to enjoy, shout out your name on our site, spend time with you on Skype, play live for you, give you opportunities to come behind the scenes and for one really awesome person, a sailboat trip for them and 5 friends! See the rewards on the side!
2. Because you're awesome. Seriously. With kickstarter, you have the power to direct the future of the arts. By supporting a musician, you're essentially casting your vote on who you would want to hear on the radio, who you want to perform in your town, who you want to hear in your headphones. With kickstarter, YOU are the reason a musician gets to reach their goals, YOU are a part of the music. We appreciate any help you can offer to our project, thank you!
4. Because we want to continually write music, record, and perform, using the platform of music to have a positive influence on culture. Future dreams include getting a sailboat to go on tour around the globe with other artists and bring attention to communities and causes globally. But first things first, we have to succeed with our kickstarter!

You'll get this one-of-a-kind handmade wedding dress, size 6, by Winship's wife, Lacey Wheatley of Kalivoda (see photos at the bottom of this project page). Made of bamboo fabric and silk, each handmade braid was hand sewn on, a project that took at least 40 hours. Lacey's line, Kalivoda, was voted Best of Baltimore in 2010 for locally made clothing. She's also a resident artist at Studio of the Arts (SOTA) in Annapolis, MD. The dress itself has been featured in a SOTA collaborative panoramic photoshoot, a DVD teaching series, as well as at a 2010 fashion exhibit at SOTA.
