Party Time!

Update #19 · Apr 16, 2013 · comment

Scene I - Inky and Blackjack's Secret Headquarters.
Inky dashes in, clutching a rolled-up note.

INKY: Blackjack! Blackjack!

BLACKJACK: What is it, Inky?

INKY: Blackjack, someone left a note on our door!

Inky hands Blackjack the note.

BLACKJACK (muttering): I thought this was supposed to be our *Secret* Headquarters.

INKY: What does it say?

BLACKJACK: "You are cordially invited to attend a party in honor of the publication of our show, Super Sidekick: The Musical!

Who: You! (Yes, you! The person reading this!)
What: The SUPER SIDEKICK: THE MUSICAL Release Party!
When: This Saturday, April 20th, 2013 from 2 PM to 4 PM
Where: 7623 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood, CA 90046
Why: Because you’re awesome. And so are we. And so is the show. And because we love cake!
How: Put on your party pants, come on down and find out!

Featuring: A reading of the excerpt of the script, a Q&A/signing/meet-and-greet with the show’s creators, photo opportunities with Ninja Koalas and more! Be there, or we'll all be Sad Pandas. Sincerely, Msr. S.F."

INKY: Wow! We've been invited to a real Hollywood party!

BLACKJACK: It sure seems like it.

INKY: So, are we going to go?

BLACKJACK: Inky, an anonymous note tacked to the door of our Secret Headquarters inviting us to a party with Ninja Koalas thrown in honor of our show? It has every marking of a trap! Of COURSE we're going to go! We're superheroes! That's what we do. Besides, they said there would be cake.

INKY: Awesome!

BLACKJACK: Now, what did I do with my party pants?

~~~~~
That's right! In honor of the publication of our show, Samuel French is throwing a party in our honor at their Sunset Blvd. location! Of course, we would love to have you join us! Come on out at 2pm this Saturday, April 20th for a party featuring a meet-and-greet/Q&A/excerpt reading/signing with show creators Greg and Mike, photo ops with ninja koalas, and more! There will be cake! You don't want to miss out. :)
At long last...
Update #18 · Jan 8, 2013 · 1 comment
Hey all! Greg here.
Happy New Year! We hope 2013's treating you well so far. For us, the Holidays were a time to rest, relax and catch up on some long-lingering projects.... including putting the finishing touches on the little gem below. This is a little bonus incentive for all of you (except Deb, who requested this - so Deb, here you go! Sorry it took so long. It's worth the wait.)
Also, for those of you that were promised autographed proof copies of the script, we just did another round of edits and corrections (hopefully the last one!) so they're coming soon! Thanks for your patience!
And now... our blooper reel.
As 2012 winds down... we've got something fun for you!
Update #17 · Dec 13, 2012 · comment
Hey all!
Greg here. It's been a great year for the Super Sidekick team. Between an incredibly successful run at FringeNYC (not to mention a Best of Fringe extension), and signing a publishing contract with Samuel French, I can't imagine how things could have gone better!
So, here's an update.
First and foremost, for you, our wonderful backers, I can finally deliver to you one of the long-awaited thank you incentives - our Do-It-Yourself Ninja Koala Costume Guide. Perfect for the marsupial martial arts enthusiast of your household, this simple guide gives you step-by-step instructions on how you can dress just like the ninja koalas from the show!
Right-click this link and select "save as" to download your copy from this link: http://www.theatreunleashed.com//super-sidekick-the-musical/images/stories/files/NinjaKoalaDIYGuide.pdf
Second, the publishing front. Mike and I received the latest (and hopefully final) proof copies from the wonderful crew at Samuel French yesterday. These guys have been working incredibly hard, and the book looks amazing! I'm feeling pretty confident that this will be the last round of approvals. Once they're approved, the book will go off to print! So, we're looking at Super Sidekick: The Musical hitting bookshelves early next year. Amazing.
Third, I recently edited together a new video trailer for the show. Check it out below! I've got one more fun piece of video I'm putting together that will be exclusively for you guys, our amazing backers. It's something that's been a long time coming and I'm really excited to get it done, so look for that to hit Teh Interwebz soon.
Fourth, I'm developing a couple more pieces of new and fun content for the official show website, www.supersidekick-musical.com, so keep your eyes open! If you want to make sure you don't miss the latest news, follow us on Twitter and "Like" us on Facebook!
So now that we've conquered off-Broadway and we're getting published, what's next for the show? Great question. First off, Samuel French is going to start marketing the show to theatre companies around the world early next year. The show is already drawing interest from companies in the Midwest and Canada, so here's hoping we see multiple productions across North America in 2013, and even more in 2014!
Second, Mike and I have several ideas for new projects that we want to start developing. This includes a sequel to Super Sidekick that may or may not involve Pirates, Pandas, Pirate Pandas, battle rap, a mysterious new threat to The Kingdom, the return of Sorcerer Slurm (who was supposedly "never to be seen again" at the close of Super Sidekick), puppy love not being as "happily ever after" as Inky and the Princess thought it would be, more Ninja Koalas and something about Blackjack "buying a farm" somewhere... Who knows? Nothing's been written yet, but the concepts we're toying with are pretty exciting.
Beyond that, the sky's the limit!
Thank you for coming along with us on this adventure. It's been a great ride so far, and I'm looking forward to having you with us on the next leg!
Onward and upward,
Greg
Hey all!
Greg here! Just wanted to post a quick update. I know that it's been a while since you've heard directly from us. I wanted to let you know that the FringeNYC run was a COMPLETE success! The reviews were outstanding, the houses were big and everyone that came LOVED the show! But that's not all...
If you're not following us on Facebook or Twitter, you may not have heard about what's happened since the end of the Fringe. Well, we became the first Fringe JR show to be awarded a Fringe Encore extension! Crazy, right? The run's been going for three weeks now and it closes this weekend. We're really looking forward to this weekend, not only because it represents the close of yet another exciting and amazing chapter in the history of this show, but because we're donating tickets to benefit Hour Children, a group that supports children in need. We're proud to give them an opportunity that they otherwise be unable to enjoy. Theatre Unleashed has a proud tradition of pairing productions to benefit charities in Los Angeles, and we're excited to work with Hour Children and our friends at ArtEffects to bring this tradition east.
I can't emphasize this point enough: We couldn't have put this show up without you, and by extension, dozens of families in need would not have been able to enjoy it without your support and generosity. Thank you. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
In other good news, we're so close to being done with editing the soundtracks, we can taste it! Greg is also working on the DIY Ninja Koala guide (and working on it has inspired him to begin planning a new show-related project... more on that later). As soon as everything is ready, we'll be able to get our donor thank you gifts out almost immediately!
In the meantime, if you want to keep up with the latest news about the Fringe Encore production or the show itself, find us on Facebook and Twitter!
