About this project
Project Background
On September 17, 2009 I set out to make art production a part of my life again. I had created very little in the 7 or so years since I graduated college with my degree in art, and I didn't understand why. I soon came up with the idea, which at the time was brilliant, of creating a piece of art a day for one year and posting it to a blog; no excuses and no quality censoring.
Little did I understand what I was undertaking.
At the time of the start I was working a 40 hour work week, married, and had two kids. Time was not a good friend to me since I was going to do my best to stay a good husband and father to my family. Once I had the grand idea of working on full sized paintings, producing linoleum block print series, and in the days when I didn't have a lot of time, small drawings. Those days when I didn't have a lot of time ended up being almost every day.

I soon was trying to squish my daily art into small chunks of time at the end of the day, after the kids were asleep. Then, because I got tired of my limited palette of pencil, black ink and a few select other colors, I started using the computer to add color, and then took to scanning random objects into the computer and using everything I had created as some sort of design elements. Also, coming up with 365 subjects, no matter how random, became difficult to do.
I stuck with it, and through a cross country trip, holidays and the pregnancy and birth of my third child, I was able to complete the project. Though feeling a sense of accomplishment, I also felt a sense of relief.

Purpose of Funding
What I want to use this project to do is self publish a book not only containing all the works created over the year, but also containing retrospective essays about what I learned over that year. The essays will be about such things as the discovery of a style, how I approach coming up with ideas, how I manage (and should have managed) my time during the year, and many more. Creating the year of art wore me out, but it also made me understand a lot about what life means to art.
First draft of book cover

I'm guessing the book will be about 40 pages long, but that's just a guess at this point.
