You've never been to a funeral as quirky and twisted as this! Help us get to the KC Fringe and NYC Midtown Int'l Theatre Fests.
The "THANK YOU NOTES: Headed to Heaven with Flat Jimmy Fallon" Story
This dark comedy is a funeral service like you’ve never experienced before! KA-BOOM! One gunshot, and Angela is headed to the afterlife – and she’s taking cardboard cut-out Jimmy with her! Celebrate her life and her love of pop culture, family and ‘everything Jimmy’.
You’ve never been to a funeral as quirky and twisted as THIS!
Or In Other Words “Egads! This Is Our Lot In Life…”
The winners of Tonys, Obies and Oscars……well, actually - that’s somebody else’s story, not ours. But we DO have many awards within the cast and creative team of THANK YOU NOTES, and we’ll get to that in short order. THANK YOU NOTES is being brought to the stage as a co-production between two mid-west theatre companies:
Egads! Theatre (voted Best Theatre Company In Kansas City, 2011 The Pitch Awards) and Lot In Life Productions, LLC (nominated for Outstanding Production Of A Play, 2011 Midtown International Theatre Festival).
Some of the rest of the team and their awards include:
- Vicki Vodrey (playwright) Finalist in PROJECT PLAYWRIGHT, nominee for Outstanding New Script, MITF 2011)
- Steven Eubank (director) Mastermind Award in the Performing Arts
- Vanessa Severo (Angela) Best Actress In Kansas City, 2011 and 2009 The Pitch Awards
- Scott Cox (Ethan) starred in the one-man show Thom Pain (based on Nothing) - Kansas City's Best Play - 2010 Pitch Awards
- Mandy Mook (Betsy) Top 15 finalists in 1987’s Little Miss Ranchmart beauty contest.
But, as you’ve heard over aaaand over aaaaand over……WE NEED YOUR HELP! But honestly, we really do. We have budgeted both productions on a shoestring, but it’s expensive doing two festivals, especially when traveling across the country. Even with a number of us donating our time, there are unavoidable costs and Discover bills to pay. The bottom line? We believe in this production. And we think some of you will, too.
Or In Other Words “KC’s Got Talent – The Reality Show”
First things first – WE LOVE NEW YORK! Some of us have lived there, some of us hope to live there, and all of us love spending time there. Let’s face it - there’s no place like Broadway, and Off Broadway, and Off Off Broadway. Yes, KC is always known for its great jazz and bar-b-que. We still have that, but we have so much more. Have you read any articles about the theatre scene in KC? It’s growing by leaps and bounds. Many of our theatre artists can compete with the best of the best. And we think they deserve that chance. Which brings us back to New York. Every actor dreams of setting foot on a New York Stage. Every director and writer would love to claim a New York credit. Egads! and Lot In Life want to make that happen.
Or In Other Words “It’s Not Personal, Sonny. It’s Strictly Business”
We’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse (hopefully). And really, it is both personal AND business. As we said, we need some help. You can make an impact on our impact! Our financial goal? We’ve set it at $5,000.00, which is only about 44% of our budget. It would be wonderful to raise the whole amount, but just this much would help us immensely, and would keep us from thumbing across the country, sleeping in Grand Central and having the credit card version on Don Corleone coming after us. As a way of writing our own thank you notes, we're offering you a list of fantastic perks to the right! *insert The Price Is Right music here*
Let's be transparent - Here's our budget (where the money is going):
- Festival Fees & Theatre Usage: $3146
- Transportation (airfare & subways) $2950
- Hotel & Accommodations $850 (yeah, some of us will be sofa surfing)
- Actors' salaries $1000
- Sets, props, costumes, make-up $500
- Publicity, PR, Printing $2750
- Director & Playwright $0 (Donation to the project)
Financial Perk For You
Or In Other Words “Sweet Charity”
Egads! Theatre is a 501(c)3 non-profit theatre company. In two words – TAX DEDUCTION!!
(To the extent of the law - the cost of the perks - i.e. tickets and T-shirts must be deducted from the deduction).
Or In Other Words “Come Blow Your Horn”
We may be in theatre, but believe it or not, we’re somewhat modest. So we’re going to let some others do the talking for us.
Hold onto your funny bone! For a work in which death is so prominent, it achieves a startling number of laughs..with incredibly detailed characters, smart structuring and fantastic performances (Matthew Murray, Talkin' Broadway Off Broadway about Vodrey's 2011 Hanky Panky).
Director Steven Eubank... again demonstrates a sharp eye for physical details, precise timing and a refined appreciation of the absurd. (KC Metropolis)
The actors handle this difficult material with breathtaking commitment. Severo has opportunities to tap into her comedic skills because, yes, this show delivers some laughs, despite the subject matter. But she's at her best during a long, intense monologue... As Severo negotiates Harrower's vivid, visual narrative [Blackbird], you could hear a pin drop. (Robert Trussell, KC Star)
The 2005 play [Thom Pain] might be a masterpiece... Scott Cox, playing Eno's chatty Everyman, turned in ...magnificent work (The KC Pitch).
Mook, with a strong yet sometimes appealingly girlish voice and an insouciant curl at the corner of her smile, brings a richness of characterization to Lucy....Mook somehow connects all this, making Lucy's the one intelligible arc in the show [Jekyll and Hyde]. (Alan Scherstuhl, The KC Pitch)
Our Thank You Note To Our Supporters
Or In Other Words “The Wind Beneath Our Wings” (We know – we’re not all crazy about it either)
Trite sounding but true – we couldn’t do it without you! You will make all the difference in the world to this production. Sometimes people try to be clever to keep from wearing their heart on their sleeve. Yeah, that’s us. We admit it. We’re pretty much a bunch of softies. We easily shed a tear when someone says, “I believe in you.” Just imagine how we’ll feel if you chip in five bucks?!
