Update #9: The Coin Challenge
Here we are in the heady days of full funding, with a couple weeks to go.
I've been cranking away on interviewee lists, enjoying the suggestions people have had for subject matter and potential interviews, and preparing the purchases of the right equipment for the productions. The plan, in the US portion anyway, will be to make a series of trips around the country where I will basically move for weeks at a time, travelling, doing shots and interviews, and also doing visits and presentations for people who want to have me - so there's a lot going on at once with that. I'll be sure to make it easy to get in touch with me for the various legs of journeys I take. It's going to be exciting.
As people who have seen my other productions know, physical presence means a lot to me, especially aspects of packaging and add-ons representing unique aspects of the subject at hand. I want you to be rewarded for buying something physical or giving something physical as thanks. While there is definitely going to be a downloadable-online version of the documentaries (by the 2013-2015 period, it would be insane not to have that option), I also will continue to work on physical versions that are worth the premium.
So, let me now stand at this juncture and issue a challenge.
$100,000 is a metric ton of money, and will give you a metric ton of movie. But adding more will make the productions even better. It will allow me to go to more exotic locations and film people otherwise missed in my previous works (which always got complaints they were north american centric) and allow me to hire artists and musicians to bring everything up a level. It will also allow me to go forward on a few packaging ideas that will be the stuff of legend. I don't waste money; trust me. But putting in more towards this project will result in more amazing additions to the movie. It will go into the production. I promise.
My challenge is that if this kickstarter hits $150,000, all $100 and above backers will get a for-them-only challenge coin. It'll be related to the kickstarter, indicate you're a backer, and look really nice.
I'll be using the same company I used for the GET LAMP coins:

They won't be individually numbered this time. Everyone gets the same coin. So it doesn't matter when you pledge or when you pledged.
I'm offering this as a thank-you when we hit that level, and to provide an immediate reward for pledging.
Up for the challenge?

Jason Scott runs TEXTFILES.COM, a collection of historical computer documents and files related to the bulletin board system era of online life. Over the years, he has moved into digital preservation, radical archiving, and public speaking on the hilarity and tragedy of the world of data. He attended Emerson College as a Film Major and then waited 10 years to begin work on a film about Bulletin Board Systems called "BBS: The Documentary". Finishing this, he turned his attention to a film about Text Adventures and Interactive Fiction called "GET LAMP". He is very, very talkative.
Yay feelies.
For those who don't own Get Lamp (Shame on you :P): The coin is amazing. You want one.
