- September 1- We now have a printer! I can now comfortably say the book will be a quality 8.5x11 hardcover book, 128 pages, with 100lb matte finish paper. This is going to look and feel real nice. Taper & Fade: Los Angeles will be a slick photo book geared toward giving the everyday dude the latest hairstyles and the barbershops behind them.
A regular guy shouldn’t be cornered into getting a quick cut at a salon. He deserves to have his hair cut at a real barbershop. For decades, barbershops were places men could go to get a shear & shave – and unwind. Unfortunately, barbershops are going the way of payphones due to corporate quick-cut franchises.
Located in LA, Bolt Barbers breaks away from the same old snooze-fest, while reinventing the old-school barbershop culture. Bolt didn’t become a destination by having a “get in/get out policy.” These guys pull out all stops to groom their loyal customers and give the tightest cuts around.
Out of the chair, Bolt Barbers extends their radical experience in the community by throwing special events. If it’s a rock & roll show or a barbershop on wheels, Bolt has it covered. All of this, and way more, creates a sick subject for our photo book.
Documentary photography is where we thrive. When it’s that time of the month… for a trim… we have a blast hanging around Bolt’s shop. Who wouldn’t want a haircut? A cold one? Or maybe a game of Donkey Kong? We’re going to show you why Bolt Barber’s is awesome. We believe, to feel good, you gotta look good -- And that starts with a sharp cut.
Our photo book will also show the everyday man the latest rage in hair. We’ve found that most hairstyle books for guys are incredibly lame and outdated. That’s why we’re bringing you the coolest styles walking the streets of L.A. Our style portion will comprise the cuts, beards and mustaches of the guys who come in and out of Bolt Barbers. This is a cutting-edge approach toward a men’s hairstyle book while staying true to our documentary roots. The cuts will be current, authentic and interesting to look at.
Taper & Fade: Los Angeles will not only be a collection of current hairstyles for men but offer tips on how to put more swagger in your step.
The funds raised through this Kickstarter campaign will help us get the book assembled and our own brand established. Books don’t grow on trees. Pages need to be designed, printed and bound for them to reach the masses.
So now is the moment of truth… Either look sharp or help out the next guy in line.
