Vernal Pools Are For Lovers T-Shirt Project

I have always been an advocate for T-shirts with a design. With the right design, T-shirts can be VERY entertaining.

If you are into T-Shirts with Fun and Entertaining designs then this Kickstarter Project is definitely for you!!!

The T-shirt reads “Vernal Pools are for Lovers”. One day, a while back, I was out monitoring vernal pools with a friend.  It was the time of year when salamanders were making their way to the vernal pools and many of the frogs were in amplexus (embracing one another). That's when it hit me.....vernal pools are for lovers!  Hence, the inspiration for this T-Shirt Design.

A Vernal Pool is a depression in the ground that holds water for at least two to three months, and lacks breeding populations of fish, thus removing predators for these amphibians and their eggs/larvae.

Wood frogs, spotted salamanders, Jefferson salamanders, blue-spotted salamanders, marbled salamanders, gray treefrogs, spring peepers, American toads, and red-spotted newts are among some of the amphibians that rely heavily on vernal pools to complete their breeding cycle.

The frogs in this T-Shirt are in the state of amplexus. Amplexus is The mating position of frogs and toads, in which the male clasps the female about the back andfertilizes the eggs that are released by the female. 

During early spring rains when temperatures rise above freezing, these amphibians migrate from their terrestrial habitats to breeding pools by the hundreds, if not thousands.

If you would like to donate to my project, any donation over $5 will receive a “Vernal Pools are for Lovers” Sticker. Any donation $22 or more receives a “Vernal Pools are for Lovers” T-shirt and a sticker. Any donation $40 or more receives 2 T-shirts and a sticker. T-Shirts are available in varying colors and sizes. Also men’s and women’s Tees will be available (they will not be unisex).

The T-shirt themselves will be from a socially responsible company (sweatshop free).
