To fantastic family, friends, acquaintances, internet buddies and co-creators,
I, Talia Billig, am making a record along with my band (my beautiful Canadiens). A real, for serious, on a CD, with artwork, album. We as a band are very excited about this.
What's our band, you ask? Let me tell you. We all met at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, where we were students and disciples of various fabulous, talented and... eccentric mentors. Midway through I started writing, and founded this current band. The band includes me on piano and vocals, Marc Beland on drums and vocals, Dan Parra on bass and vocals and Franky Rousseau on guitar and vocals. We started playing around New York. You may have caught us recently at Cornelia Street Cafe or Rockwood (hi!). A month ago we hadjed up to Canada and fell in love with Montreal (Les Trois Minots and Il Motore). So far it has been a jolly good time.
In December we recorded three songs at Bunker Studios in Brooklyn that are up on my website www.taliabillig.com. We had a fantastic time with the Bunker folks, and since they are building a glorious new massive all wood studio with a 1969 Steinway M, we want to record our debut album there. In fact, we have booked the dates! But, that new studio is a step up for us, and very expensive. We also need to budget for mixing, mastering, artwork, printing, visiting studio musicians...
Therefore we're asking for your help. We're using this splendiferous website to earnestly reach out to you. There are some pretty rad presents in there too, courtesy of garden variety Canadien creativity. Look to the right side of your screen for a list of 'em. If for some reason you DON'T want a prize, we'll understand.
