About this project
On October 16, 2010 in NYC, an anticipated 120 models with distinctive visual personalities will be assembled into a series of suspended interactions. These living, breathing images that form an event that is at once performance, party and experiment resonate with dramatic bravado. This performance art project is based on Sarah Small's still-photographic series, The Delirium Constructions. Small brings models into improbable, close interactions to examine the social and graphic contrasts of youth and experience, hysteria and discipline, tragedy and hilarity, and sexuality and desexualization.
The October Tableau Vivant will be both the centerpiece and immersive environment for 700 expected attendees. Guests will be drawn into a succession of atmospheres which interweave visual and sonic textures of harmony and dissonance. The evening will include original vocal arrangements performed by Shara Worden (of My Brightest Diamond, The Decemberists, Sufjan Stevens, and featured with David Byrne) and Black Sea Hotel (Brooklyn's A Cappella quartet featured as #2 on iTunes World Music) as heard in the video above.
In the months leading up to the main event, we hosted four mini-Tableaux Vivants exploring various components of the performance.
Our fifth Mini-Tableau Vivant is featured during the Dumbo Arts Festival September 25 at powerHouse Books. Come join us to see a live performance and moderated panel discussion with the models!!!
We are partnered with Lucie Foundation – a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation whose mission is to honor master photographers, discover and cultivate emerging talent, and promote the appreciation of photography worldwide. Donations to Tableau Vivant of the Delirium Constructions Part II are tax-deductible up to the full extent of the law.
Proceeds from this Kickstarter account will help us pay for the October 16 venue, the time donated by our wonderful cast and crew, and future Tableaux Vivants beyond October. Help us keep this project alive!!
