Photo-main

A constantly shifting landscape of live sound, water, and motion, this dance evokes kaleidoscopic selves and keen instincts.

Its been a soaking wet, giggle-ridden, and seriously abstract time.

We get in the studio two or three times a week to ask verbal questions that get answered through sound and movement: How does "fight or flight" show up in my daily life? Does my spirit of competition come from an innate territoriality? What is it about physical movement that explores these grey areas in the human-to-animal spectrum better than I can talk about them?

It keeps me up at night...the unanswered questions, the wild-will-this-work-ideas, the movement that has settled into my body memory, and the triumphs of working out solutions as an ensemble.

The people creating with me - Alitra, Frank, Matthew, and Michelle, have shaped fascinating work out of my midnight wonderings, bringing their artistic talents and their humanity into a risky, experimental process.

The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago presents the Without Pause premiere March 8, 9, and 10, 2012.

All of us at Synapse are very excited to show this work on a triple-bill with two other arts groups who make dance-theater: The Space/Movement Project and Erica Mott Productions.

Making contemporary (way easier than saying post-post-modern) dance-theater work asks its maker to consider theme, motif, and narrative. Either to use them deftly or toss them out the window.

By supporting this project, you're supporting the evolution of theatre entwined with dance as well as the eight artists who are pouring their time and energy into Without Pause.

We are in the final stages of making this piece!

Costumes, lights, and set are all coming together as we rehearse the many ways of starting and ending a piece that looks at transformation, improvisation, structure, and the visceral instincts alive in each of us.

All funds raised will go directly to paying the performers and collaborating artists.

Thank you!!
