Sensor poll #1 results

Update #7 · Dec 20, 2011 · 11 comments

WHEN motion sensor detects no motion, THEN tweet "Not a creature was stirring."

WHEN motion sensor detects motion, THEN tweet "Someone's peeking at gifts under the tree!"

Our backers have spoken, and the first additional external sensor (which we'll develop for sale after Twine has shipped) has been selected. The IR motion sensor took it in a landslide with over half the votes! This sensor senses movement from up to 5 meters away and has a 90º field of view. It will cost $40.

If your choice didn't get picked, don't fret. Second place was the external high-temperature sensor, and that will get another chance in our second sensor poll next week. And between us and your more tech-savvy Twine fellows, there will be how-tos on building other sensors.

Happy holidays,
John and David

The "breakout board" is misleading as being a sensor, would David Carr or John Kestner please clear this up?I feel pledgers ay $165+ should have a choice of included 1 of 3 of the upcoming additional sensors being developed...in addition to the moisture, magnetic as being the 3 real sensors pledgers get!

breakout board is not a "sensor"

I'm kind of surprised temperature is more important to people than dB SPL. Guess I've been hanging out with audiologists too much. ;)

Re the idea of solar power, why not partner with Bsquares, who have these small solar squares.

Adrian, the three external sensors $165-level backers get are the magnetic switch, the moisture sensor and the breakout board. Sorry for the confusion between these initial three external sensors, and the three backer-chosen sensors to be developed.

So uhh $165 supporters won't get the motion sensor attached? :( So what are the three additional sensors we're promised?

We're focused on getting everyone their Twine as soon as possible, so the motion sensor will be developed after we ship rewards, and will be available for sale separately on our site once it's ready.

Solar power is certainly an option, and it should be possible to make something that connects to the micro USB port. But we wanted to keep cost to a minimum for everyone.

Have you considered solar enabling the device - the approach could either extend its battery life or it keep powered up indefinitely. The device seems big enough to accommodate a reasonable solar panel on one side - just a thought...

Where can we get this external motion sensor?

Any chance we can add the motion sensor to our pledges?
