A mysterious woman from the past, a family fighting to hold on, and a swarm of butterflies possessed by the ghost of the Sunset Starlet
Hi & welcome to our Kickstarter campaign to raise production funds for Curse of the Sunset Starlet shooting in early 2012!
Curse of the Sunset Starlet A daughter abandoned as a child gets an unexpected visit from a woman who claims to be the starlet mother who left her so many years ago. But is she drifter, grifter or ghost? The “Curse of the Sunset Starlet” holds the secret.
In a script that is magical and haunting, Curse of the Sunset Starlet is a blend of the movie Twilight and the TV show Twilight Zone.
Why do we need your help? Making a good movie—even a short one—takes money. We have incredibly talented and experienced actors & crew who all believe in Curse of the Sunset Starlet enough to work for a very reduced rate—or no fee at all.
A big congrats to our talented star Kathleen Wilhoite who co-stars in the feature California Solo which was just accepted into the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.
There are some exciting actresses potentially interested in playing the role of the ex-starlet (including 2 who have been nominated for Academy Awards) who abandoned her daughter (played by Kathleen). But we can’t lock in this actress til we’ve raised all our production money.
Here’s how Kickstarter works: If we don’t meet our funding goal of $12,000, we don’t get any of the money. Your credit card is only charged if our funding effort is successful. Your money will ONLY go towards production costs, not swanky lunches.
For every contribution level, there are great incentives (see the right hand column) so you’ll be able to find a level of support that you feel comfy with and an incentive that you like.
Need another reason to contribute? You might be surprised to know about gender disparity in the directors chair. Check out these stats*
TV seasons 2009-2011: Men directed 88% of all shows. Women 12% The number of top films directed by women has remained static for 25 years at 8%.
Why the heck should you care? The population might be more than 50% female, but on shows directed by a man, only 30% of speaking roles are women. When a woman is directing, that number jumps to as high as 44%.
The proportion of women on screen hasn't changed since the 1940s. Hey we love guys, but seriously? (our writer Steve says wryly "The Taliban could do better at promoting women than Hollywood".)
By contributing to our film, you are helping to promote a female director. Lori is also very involved in promoting other talented female directors.
We hope you'll contribute and be part of our production team on Curse of the Sunset Starlet! Please share this link on your Facebook page & email anyone who loves a good movie.
A big shout out to Rhonda Peacock who edited this video http://studio1080.tv/ And to VOX+ASSOCIATES for designing the poster.
PS Lots of people ask where Lori gets her butterfly wings. Rest assured, they are obtained from approved sources and no rare or endangered species would ever be used. Butterfly farms can also be good sources of income for people living in impoverished countries.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
