SPREADING THE WORD ABOUT VOTES FOR WOMEN IN THE WORLD
This past weekend was the official start of the Kickstarter campaign to raise money for the next phase of the film project about my grandmother's activism during the suffrage movement.
For more information, visit the suffrage wagon web site and blog: (www.suffragewagon.org) and (www.suffragewagon.wordpress.com).
The Kickstarter campaign had an added boost with the participation of performer Gerri Gribi. Gerri added an extra level of fun to telling the story of my grandmother, Edna Buckman Kearns, by singing what is one of the better-known suffrage songs, "Oh, dear, what can the matter be?"as well as other songs from women's musical history.
It has been a busy month so far getting out the word, and this includes visits to the New Mexico School of the Arts, KSFR public radio, the Abiquiu Library and Cultural Center, and a meeting of the Santa Fe chapter of the AAUW.
It's inspiring, as well as informative, to present the story of Votes for Women and the woman's suffrage movement by using a personal story. In this case, it's not only my journey through time and awareness, but also five generations in my family.
The work involves more than recounting our history. It also means bringing the secrets and messages of the past into the present day and future.
Onward!
All the best from Marguerite Kearns.
