This goes without saying, but keep fighting the good fight. I'll be there for you fine folks if you decide to run another KS drive. Good luck, and I wish you great success.
Creator Gerolf Nikolay on May 22, 2012
This looks promising, indeed. What a great storytelling tool :) Hope to use it soon!
Creator Jason Klimchok on May 22, 2012
I gotta say this is not looking promising...not at all. :-(
Creator Storybricks on May 15, 2012
Dan,
Again, thanks for your feedback. I think part of the disconnect here is that while we have ideas for the direction we want to go, the Storybricks project has always been about user feedback. We are literally in the alpha phase of the project, and we're opening it up because we want to hear what you want. It sounds like you would be the perfect candidate for giving us feedback since yous aid you are comfortable with scripting and visual design.
Our top priority has been to create an experience that is useful to people who want to use it. We don't want to do the typical MMO developer act of working in isolation just to release a product that nobody cares about. We're not building a tech demo here, we're building an actual product. I've got a list of features we're planning to add for the next few revisions of Storybricks, so perhaps that will more directly address some of your questions. I'll also say that when it comes to developing a game later, we'll have a strong vision for what we want to do with that. It's just that we see Storybricks itself as the foundation, and we want that to be the best it can be.
So, I guess the question is: are you interested in this concept at all? if so, dig in and give us feedback. Throw a little bit into the KS campaign to keep us going. We're here, we're excited about the possibilities, and we're listening for your feedback.
Hope to hear from you soon,

Hey Brian,
I totally appreciate the challenge you guys face in attempting to articulate exactly what it is you're creating.
I had played with the example projects, the two pre-built ones. I was hoping for a demonstration of something ... different. But I understand that the project is in a very early stage and it's likely that I'm not getting a good idea of the product's full potential. At this stage, and as someone comfortable in scripting and visual design environments, I'm not getting a good image of how I'm going to use this product.
What I really need to see from you guys is a presentation clearly painting the experience I'm going to have as a subscriber to this product. Maybe a mock-up of planned features, something that shows me its value to me, as a user--what is it going to be like for me when I have this in my hands.
A lot of the other Kickstarter projects I have backed have videos that clearly explain the kind of experience I am going to have as a user--now most of those projects are games, so it's easy to convey that--so I appreciate the challenge you face in expressing that.
It's possible that the process of articulating exactly what the user experience is going to be may reveal all of the other questions I asked earlier.

Thanks for your feedback, Dan.
Obviously we've had a hard time communicating exactly what Storybricks is. The problem is that any term we use to describe it immediately makes people try to create comparisons. Is Storybricks a toolset? Yes, but not quite in the way that NWN was a toolset. Is it an MMO? Yes, but not exactly comparable to games currently on the market.
Really, the best thing you can do is try out our public demo: http://play.storybricks.com/ Test it out, see what you think. Maybe let us know how you would define it. We've asked a lot of people, but nobody has been able to give us a good answer yet, even people who can see the potential and are excited about the future.
As for the rest of your questions, we're reworking the text of our main project page to address some of these.
Again, thanks for your feedback and support.

I'm backing this project symbolically, I think it's a neat idea and an interesting potential tool.
But I don't understand the following:
- What are you making?
Are you making a game engine? Are you making an AI Toolset? Are you making a game?
- Who is this for? Gamers? Developers?
- Why do you need 250k?
Rather, what does getting 250k enable you to achieve? What does that specific number have to do with you creating this product?
- What is left to "finish" the project? What do you even have left to do?
If I were a major investor, looking to drop serious Capital on your project, I would see this Kickstarter as a very poorly managed and poorly presented potential investment.
You would probably have clearer success if you adopted Epic Games' model, whereby you create a finished game product that showcases the power of your toolset allowing you to generate additional income through a revenue stream alternate to licensing your toolset.
If I were a VC, I would be asking you WHY you don't seem to have been doing that and ask if you are planning on doing that.
I don't see focus and 250k is a lot to ask of a community of backers when your project goals aren't even clear.

Saul, sorry for the delayed response. We've been busy with the new browser demo (linked on main page and from an update). Our long-term plans are to put this in a variety of game types, not just fantasy. We saw a general fantasy setting as the most fertile for stories at the beginning. As people get used to the concepts of Storybricks, we definitely see us as being able to expand into other settings.
Thanks for your backing! Go try out the alpha, build a story, share it, and let us know what you think!
Creator Saul Alexander Whitton on May 8, 2012
This is a really cool concept, guys! A lot of people talk about building properly customisable interactive stories, but it's fantastic to see someone actually attempting to do it. As much as I enjoy fantasy settings, it would be even greater if this could be extended to other types of stories as well.
I have to agree that you need more exciting videos, though. If you could get some help from someone with some marketing experience, this could really take off! Anyway, I've backed you and I hope you get to the target!

Hi Tim,
I'll forward and see if we can figure something out. Thank you for the feedback.

One suggestion. The audio on the video is hard to follow, especially with (and no offense to) the accents. Captions would be fantastic. It's not that it's "bad" bad, but for someone like me with some hearing loss, it's pretty difficult to follow.
A great test for a video like this (and IMO any Kickstarter video) is to watch it with the sound turned off. If you can still figure out what it's trying to pitch, it's good.

Amazing thing! I heard about Storybricks a couple of times already but never realized it's Psychochild behind it.
Good thing I can support it now :)
Creator Storybricks on May 1, 2012
Our plans at the moment don't include live events but we know it's something players want. However, this doesn't preclude you from creating a story that 1000 players can play - even at once. It would just take a lot of work!
Cheers,

I can see this being an epic middleware play for small and medium scale development houses. Especially if you can figure out a way to do interactive storytelling where one GM can metagame and game with 1000 players.
