About this project

Pickwick Independent Press, a membership based collaborative print studio, would like to participate in a community event held by Space gallery www.space538.org this September called Block Party. As a vendor at this event , I would like to do something extraordinary that highlights our members and gets the word out about who we are and what we are about, which is essentially, making awesome prints. What we have decided to do is rent a steamroller and invite members from Pickwick Independent Press (PIP) as well as all over the state to carve giant 4x4 or 4x8 foot woodblocks. Our goal is to gain sponsorship for 15 artists and their blocks. A carving party will be scheduled that will make the block making both fun as well as an efficient way of sharing knowledge and tools. During the block party event we will print, in a performative fashion, the pre-carved plates provided by our invited artists and printmakers. The audiences at the event can watch the artists work, make process decisions, and ultimately watch the monster steamroller stamping the print into large, bed sheet sized, canvas prints. What we need help with are materials, steamroller rental, and carving equipment. Sponsorship of this event will also help fundraise for future programming planned to help promote the members of the press.
