Hello!  My name is Stacy Jill Calvert, and I am currently in production of my first documentary film, Jake and Janie. 

About the Film: 
Jake and Janie is a story about a couple (aka my parents), who have struggled with money, health and addiction problems over the course of their forty years of marriage. They have the chance for a fresh start in a new city. Ironically, the place that they now reside is somewhere that caused a lot of pain and heartache in our family - Las Vegas. 

Over the past fifteen years, my family has been on a major roller coaster. My parents both had gambling issues.  My father was a "professional blackjack player", and my mother was addicted to video poker. Fortunately, the gambling stopped, but for the next few years, my family was struck again with chaos when my father became ill. After a heart attack,quadruple bypass and finally a kidney transplant from his dear old daughter (yes, me), he was finally on the road to recovery. 

This film is for obvious reasons, an extremely personal topic. Why would anyone want to do a film about their parents? Well, if you remember that old saying "life is stranger than fiction," you may completely understand why this story must be told. 

I have already completed initial filming in October, but will return to Las Vegas in March to continue my interviews with my parents, and also speak to others who work in the gaming industry. I hope to also travel to my parents' hometowns (Chicago suburbs & Northern New Jersey) to film the areas where they grew up, and possibly interview some friends and family

The minimum budget for the film is $12,000. Due to the fact that I am currently living in Southern Illinois (2 hours east of St. Louis), the cost of traveling to Las Vegas and other places is unfortunately, quite expensive.  The funds will also help us with additional production expenses including equipment rentals, marketing & more!
