About this project
The Hinterlands is an experimental short film that will push visual aesthetics and cinematography into another level of creativity. The story will follow a man on his quest to find the final traces of human existence, rations and supplies amongst ruthless yet breathtaking environments. The goal for the film is to create a world unlike any other with spectacular locations, awe-inspiring cinematography, and a glimpse into a world unknown.

Locations play a massive role in this film, we want the most striking environments possible and most of funding received will be spent on travel. Iceland will be our top destination because of my vast knowledge of the land and its startling quality for light and landscape. Other location goals for filming will include: Greenland, Norway, Scotland and Ukraine.
Sadly, this year hasn't granted me much time for personal projects, and I look forward to this film and the freedom it will provide me. The last personal project I worked on was when the Eyjafjallajökull volcano eruption that took place in Iceland last year. Time allowed me only a day and a half for shooting, but I got some pleasing results and the next trip I'll use similar techniques but create something much grander. WIth your help, this Kickstarter will grant me the opportunity to spend more time shooting and pick up where I left off in utilizing these new tools of camera technology.
We will be shooting with an ARRI ALEXA primarily as well as some 5d time-lapse and stills work.
Also Porter McKnight will be helping me on this project, and with his assistance we'll turn this film into much more. The combination of his and my still photography, his graphic design background and knack for hand making artwork and books, we'll turn this into a graphical force to be reckoned with. For his work please see below and visit www.portermcknight.com.

We'll be offering a photography book, photo prints, handmade collage pieces and a one of a kind collage/photography piece as a grand prize. Hell, if you're crazy enough we'll even fly you out to Los Angeles for a day and teach you to shoot anything your heart desires!
Essentially we need your Kickstarter funding to help with travel/equipment/crew rentals. You can help send us to the furthest stretches of the planet and directly impact this unique and diverse imagery.

Hailing from picturesque Park City Utah, Sean devoted his life to ski racing until he discovered his passion of using a camera. He completed undergraduate at Chapman University and then earned his masters degree from American Film Institute both in the discipline of cinematography. His thesis film ‘The Butcher’s Daughter’ earned him the 2007 ASC Heritage award for his excellence behind the lens. Various cinematography publications have published articles about his work, such as American Cinematographer and ICG Magazine. Sean has shot as well as directed numerous music videos and commercials. In 2010 he developed and evolved his technique of time-lapse cinematography by chasing after the notorious Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Iceland. He shot a small personal project that became a popular viral video with over a million views in a week. He currently lives in Los Angeles shooting commercials, music videos and documentaries. His goals are to expand his narrative feature career in time with inspiring projects and stories that best suit his cinematic vision, while continuing to shoot visual commercials and music videos.
