#8 - Sketches In Blue, Who Is Who? + Origins!

Update #8 · May 31, 2012 · 13 comments
Greetings, fellow faerie folk! Mike Maihack, the talented artist behind the beautiful illustrations in GDFR, has been hard at work on the remaining 20 characters for our game. With each new batch of characters, Mike creates sketches based on David's written descriptions. The sketches are either approved right away, or sent back for some (usually minor) changes, before moving on to the full color versions. We will be revealing the new goblins and fairies that Mike has been creating, starting with these original sketches:

Can you guess the names of these fairy friends and rhyming rapscallions?

Also, we want to give you a heads up on a special event we will be running from today until Saturday, June 9th. We're going to find out who's side you're really on... Team Goblin or Team Fairy? We will be conducting a poll using Survey Monkey to see which faction is more popular with our community of supporters. We will also be giving you the chance to earn extra votes for your favored team, with cross-over discussions on the BoardGameGeek and deviantART forums. The winning team will be immortalized with a brand new desktop wallpaper featuring characters from GDFR (either only Goblins or only Fairies depending on which gets the most votes), free for everyone to download! The losing team gets diddly squat... More details, instructions, and links to come in the next update!

For now, show us how clever you are by guessing the names behind these sketches here in the comments. Bonus coolness points to you if you also shout out your guesses on Twitter, Facebook, and anywhere else you'd like. Good luck!  :)

And remember, we're featuring Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! at the massive Game Salute booth at the Origins Game Fair this weekend in Columbus, OH. Swing by our area right at the front of the hall - starting at booth 100!

Kokopelli! I didn't figure that one out.

I think "Kokopelli" is my favorite illustration so far.

Sven - those are some cute and creative names. :-)
Morgan - everyone seems to like your guesses. You might be on to something...
John - I also love what may or may not be the Kokopelli Fairy... Such a fun picture!
      Stephanie - Awesome! :-D
      Drew - LOL
Tobias - If those names don't match up to the characters, they would still make excellent backer nicknames...

Morgan's guesses are great. I kind of want the first character to be called Glutton Unbuttoned, but it doesn't rhyme with Lizzie Charmer.

Kokopelli! A brilliant deduction. I was going with a "gizzard/lizard" thing, which was not as funny. And though I cracked Goldielocks, I am relieved to find out that the rhyme is "pox" and not another rhyming word for rooster. :)

I played the print-n-play game this morning.

It took about 10 minutes to setup, learn, and play. My husband won.

I think we played one thing incorrectly (star cards), but it wasn't a game-breaker.

This is a very light-hearted, whimsical game. I think it'll be a hit with my tween niece, and a good filler with my late-20's gamer guys.

My guesses are the same as Morgan's. I love (what I assume is) the Kokopelli Fairy drawing

Not bad. ;-) I'll let some more people guess before giving out the answers, then you can see how many you got right...
The Team Goblin / Team Fairy poll will begin this saturday! Links to come in the next update...
