You Meet the Nicest People Making Videogames will be a documentary about everyday people who express themselves by making videogames.
You Meet the Nicest People Making Videogames is to be a documentary about everyday people who express themselves by making videogames. “To be”, because at the moment, this movie hasn’t completed production, and doesn’t have the funding to do so. Everything you see in the trailer above, and everything I’ve shot since, was made with borrowed equipment, on my own time and my own dime. I’ve been working on it, in the margins, since January, getting interviews whenever I could.
It’s gone well so far, and I’d like to do more. My plan is to drive across country late summer or early fall of this year, film some more interviews and put together a feature film. This feature, I’ll have screened in any theater that’ll have it, and throughout the festival circuit. It’ll also be free to download an watch at home, or to modify or share, as it’ll be released under the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license (CC-BY-SA - click here to learn more).
You can see the original Kickstarter page for this documentary here. As you can see, I hadn’t come close to reaching my fundraising goal, but people have been very supportive, offering advice, music and even footage. I’ll be starting a new fundraiser soon, but I’ve managed to make some adjustments and can target a lower budget. Should make things a little easier, I think.
Just as on that Kickstarter page, any equipment purchased for this documentary’s production will be turned over to Silicon Valley DeBug, the community center that has so graciously let me borrow their equipment, upon completion.
Keep watching this space, and I’ll be sure to keep you posted. If you’ve got any questions for me, feel free to ask.
