Follow the first adventure of Abraxas Spellchaser, magician and professional trouble-maker.

The Story

Abraxas Spellchaser has been a student of magic under his father since his eleventh birthday. Since he began that training, over a decade has passed, and Abraxas, known as Abe to his family and friends, thinks he's ready to take the final test and prove himself to both his father and the magical community that he deserves the title of "Magician," the most skilled of all of those who possess the gift of magic.

His father gave him a simple test, walk between the worlds using his magic and return to their home in the Endless City. It's a magic Abe's known and practiced for almost five years. It should be simple.

Right up to the point where Abe attempts to open the door between worlds and is knocked out from a strange backlash as he attempts to use his magic. From there, he is drawn into a web of intrigue and a game centuries old as he tries to figure out what is going on and how he can get home.

The story behind the story

I started writing Reckless Magus just over a year ago, after I lost my contract job with a local company. I had been writing short stories and things for myself and my hobbies for years, but this was the kick that I found I needed to actually create something that I wanted to present to the public. It was a combination of finally having the time to sit down and write like I meant it and a need to keep myself sane while I kept looking for a new job.

The new job eventually came, but I kept writing, those two months of job hunting and writing having secured a place in my heart for sitting down and trying to spin a story out into the world. I kept working at the story, and now I'm ready to present it to the world. I thank you for taking the time to read about my adventures and hope you'll help me follow through on my dreams to tell stories of Abe and his father.

Why Kickstart the Book?

I came to Kickstarter because I want to reach out on my own and try and make an impact on the world on my own feet. I'm going to use the funds from the Kickstart to pay for some of the final costs (ISBN numbers, whatever other assorted costs I may run into) and recover some of my expenses in putting the book together, like the money I paid to my cover artist (Grace Palmer, a wonderful artist whose work you should check out here).

Rewards

Grabbing multiple award tiers – If you want to get multiple exclusive awards (such as you want a tote bag, the paperback, and a Dirt Mouse statue), please back at the highest level and add the Supplemental Cost for each additional item:

  • Postcard– $1
  • Bumper Sticker– $1
  • Art Print of the cover (Picasso-level)– $25
  • Personalized e-book dedication (Journal-level)– $24
  • Reckless Magus Board Game (Game Maker-level)– $40
  • Tote Bag (Journeyman-level)– $40
  • Blank Spell Journal (Chronicler-level)– $50
  • Paperback (Student-level)– $60
  • Dirt Mouse statuette (Cryptozoologist-level)– $100

So if you wanted to get the items I listed in my example about, you would back at the Cryptozoologist level and add $100, $60 for the paper-back and $40 for the tote bag.

Stretch Goals

There are stretch goals planned out if we break through our initial funding goal, including several more books, including a copy of the second Spellchaser Chronicles novel.

But the very first: at $3,500, we'll be adding the Dragon Chaser level, which will allow you to get a statuette featuring Spark Child. In addition, I'll open up five more of each of the limited rewards (aside from the cameo in the next novel).
