Creator Porcupine on May 27, 2012
@Paul: I'm currently backing a certain awesome sounding space sim that already has a frickin' PLAYABLE DEMO, and it's getting them precisely nowhere (amount raised is barely 5 figures). So yes, demos are good, but publicity - any kind of publicity - is at least three full orders of magnitude better...
Creator Porcupine on May 27, 2012
There are obviously two ways to raise the (currently insufficient) level of contributions - try to convince existing backers to pledge more, or reach new potential backers - and I'm pretty much convinced that there is really just one option: the second one. You guys need to blackmail / bribe whoever you can into mentioning you on some major-ish blog / portal / etc. There's only so much guerilla marketing even dedicated fans can do before they get thrown out by every kickstarter-fatigued / -averse community they are a member of. I honestly want this to succeed but I'm categorically unable to pledge more and my audience is next to zero - so please consider: less reward fidgeting, more journo courting...!
Creator Dan Alexander Porter on May 27, 2012
It is not just about the prototypes people, those are just so we get a taste of the whole game development process.... I really don't understand the negativity that is coming out of people here. Yes, I agree that more publicity needs to be generated to reach beyond the Space Quest fans, so maybe a SQ marathon would help...
I think more positive thoughts and ideas are needed...this project will be a success simply because of the two guys that are at the helm...
Creator Paul on May 27, 2012
I think the prototype is a good move to differentiate the Kickstarter, but I'm not sure it will bring in a lot of new folks until it's more refined and has more content. You are in a bad dilemma right now, you need to spend more time getting publicity, on the other hand the time you spent on the prototype will be wasted if you don't get something really good ready for the final push... :/
Creator Eugene on May 27, 2012
@Jared87: Also there is going to be Avatar 2. And Firefly never gets old. RPS totally missed it.
Creator filippod on May 27, 2012
The simple truth is that we need more backers. Let's all convince a friend.
Creator Jared87 on May 27, 2012
RPS in that article sounded kinda dick-ish to me. They mock them for referring to Avatar, Halo and Firefly recent. Well, Halo is a massive franchise that's still going and Avatar is only a couple of years old. Besides, in the livechat I think the first sci-fi target Scott mentioned was Prometheus. Which I'd call recent since it isn't even out yet!
Creator Glen Fernandez on May 26, 2012
it might be a Diablo 3 thing (lol), it could also be because it's the end of the month and people might not have money right now, maybe after they get paid early next month the thing will pick up again.
Creator avi thomas on May 26, 2012
I thought this project would have broken some fund raising records by now. What kind of terrible world do we live in?
Creator Dan B on May 26, 2012
@Tim: It could help, as long as they are in the "upcoming IAMAs" list (Jane's wasn't). I found this document (Reddit AMA: A crash course) that might be helpful: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B324Hj3W77gJa25OZ093RzBXVjA/edit…
Creator Two Guys From Andromeda on May 26, 2012
To clarify, we have an AMA reddit for next week. We are still working out day/time
Creator Panos Dionysopoulos on May 26, 2012
I thought this update was funny. I liked the crude drawings. So why hasn't anyone arranged a space quest fundraising marathon yet where mark and Scott can come in and chat for a bit? Maybe on twitch.tv like the Lsl one was? Pick a charity, split the amount raised between the charity and the kick starter, publicize it, it normally goes well. I'd do it if I didn't work full time
Creator Greg on May 26, 2012
Yeah, not the kind of publicity at RPS though. Man, their outlook on the project is even more negative in this weeks update. Very negative.
Creator Tim on May 26, 2012
@Fracois Verret - I agree that the campaign needs more publicity which is why I've been trying to do my part by posting to the forums I regularly visit. Upon reading them, some have said they've pledged and it's gathered numerous views which is always a good thing.
The campaign needs more targeted publicity - on a social news site like Reddit. Searching for 'space quest', there's about 17 threads on the kickstarter with the top most ranked at 68 votes. This is a far cry away from the Double Fine one which garnered about 1500.
Perhaps if Scott and Mark did an 'Ask Me Anything' (eg. http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/tla3z/i_am_jane_jensen_creator_of_gabriel_knight_gray/) they might be able to generate more interest in the project and allay people's concerns about where the new project is heading. And if they were to do one, advertise it here so that supporters like me who are also redditors can upvote the hell out of it and get it to the frontpage.
Creator Francois Verret on May 26, 2012
I love what you guys are doing, but we have already pledged money. Like Raph Koster says, do not advertise to your customer, they already bought the game (in a manner of speaking). You need to reach a bigger audience.
Creator TheChosenOne on May 26, 2012
Indeed back to basic. Less prototype stuff more "normal" Kickstarter. :)
Creator David A(Ohverture)-XSF- TGFA Pony Tattoo on May 26, 2012
Bahaha....love it. :)
Creator Benjamin Penney on May 26, 2012
I don't get it. Can someone explain it to me, thereby ruining the joke please?
Creator S.D. on May 26, 2012
Love the self-deprecating meta humor!
Creator Lars Vogel on May 26, 2012
Brandon, I don't know why but I read your comment in Peter Griffin's voice, followed by a "mheheheheh"
Creator Two Guys From Andromeda on May 26, 2012
@Zork, it does. Thanks for the heads up
Creator Brandon Blume on May 26, 2012
I thought it was funny. The Two Guys making fun of themselves.
Creator Zork on May 26, 2012
@Two guys Yeah I read it, just saying if you're doing comics get them done properly. Just my opinion of course - while I loved "simple" I don't nearly enjoy "crude" as much. Hope this makes sense.
Creator Joshua Carmody on May 26, 2012
Not bad!
I saw the last panel though and thought "Whoa, they're already at $300,000? That'd a big jump from yesterday!". Then I went to the site and found it was not so.
Oh well, we'll get there.
Creator Two Guys From Andromeda on May 26, 2012
Kris* oops
Creator Two Guys From Andromeda on May 26, 2012
Also, we asked Chris to make that for us. Guess we should have said that up front.
Creator Two Guys From Andromeda on May 26, 2012
@Zork you did see Mark's comment above right?
Creator Zork on May 26, 2012
It's an OK attempt but Kris Straub's comic was WAY better guys. Don't ruin the vibe
...or maybe Kris should start a space adventure game on Kickstarter? ;-)
Creator Jwmeep on May 26, 2012
Ha, that's great.
Creator markcrowe on May 26, 2012
Hope everyone's enjoying our weak stab at a webcomic strip. I bow to Kris Straub's superior comic skills and topical humor and in no way meant any disrespect towards the strip he generously did for us. It's a lot harder than it looks.
Creator Tim L-Member of the Church of Gary Owens on May 26, 2012
RPS coverage doesn't exactly seem helpful, but I guess any news is good news, right?
Creator S.D. on May 26, 2012

Creator Alex Valero "Danda" on May 26, 2012
