Kicktraq has a comment graph, now! Unfortunately, the data is spotty for projects early in its history, so the comment graph for SpaceVenture is completely wrong, but it is interesting to see (as we suspected) that high comment days correlate with high pledge days in a statistically significant way.

I don't need to see how the sausage gets made, but I sure wouldn't mind a progress bar we could follow or some updates about what was done this month or whatever. I really, for the life of me, can't understand why that's impossible to do.

But they've made it pretty clear that's not going to happen, so for now we can just wait and keep the faith. In fairness, if this were a normal game we probably wouldn't even know it exists at this stage in development.

I was personally hoping for SVrewards site to be a bit more lively. Latest update there is from late february.

    20. Fb_profile_picture.small

Creator Chris Paoli on May 6

I don't have a problem with the delayed release. The thing is, though, I payed into this Kickstarter because I wanted to see how the sausage is made -- wanted to see the progression of the game. Unfortunately, we've gotten little to no info on the actual development of the game.

It might just have been me, though. I guess I've been spoiled by previous Kickstarters that have been more transparent with the backers.

    21. Earthwormgoat.small

Creator speedster annelid dreamer $6.13 on May 6

Chris, take a look this brief update format being adopted by another Chris, see if something like this could be worked into a "news" section on the rewards site:
      http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lavidimus/chris-taylors-arakion/posts/473058

Note that only one section will be updated per week, so it might not be too onerous for the team (speaking as a software engineer who has sometime needed to do weekly status emails and hated it)

    22. Logo.small

Creator Two Guys From Andromeda on May 6

Hey guys, please keep the faith. As of right now, we are working on something crazy exciting to show you. When will it be ready? I'm not 100% sure. One thing for sure, it will not be rushed no matter how upset everyone gets. I ask everyone again, please be patient. I promise you this, you WILL NOT be disappointed in SpaceVenture. When you play it, you will say it was worth the wait.. and the being in the dark on certain things as well. I just know it! :)

    23. Officer_b.small

      Creator Tomimt on May 6

Sadly it's looking like the positive buzz that was around SpaceVenture is shirveling down. It's difficult ot keep up the buzz about a game we have so little to be exited about. What we need now is an actual, honest in game footage to get the positve buzz on again. And preferably on brand new locations.

    24. Missing_small

Creator Jason Joyce on May 5

      Well...

On the other side of the update coin, it was two months since the last update when they were pressured into posting something.

It's also been made clear that not only are Scott and Mark accustomed to locking themselves in an office and popping up when the game's done, but that they don't want to leak anything that could be a "spoiler".

I have one scenario that explains why the project's gone this dark with little to no information about the actual game or state. It'd be a hell of bombshell if it were true, but the odds of this particular scenario being accurate are incredibly slim.

In any case, I'm resigning myself to the fact that most of the inside peek at the making of the game I thought we'd be getting isn't going to happen. In hindsight, I kinda wish I hadn't pledged what I did, but...The Two Guys were a big part of developing my love for adventure games and Sierra in particular, so....I'm sure they'll come up with something great.

      Thanks

    39. Frogacuda.small

      Creator Frogacuda on April 22

Like I said, I don't know, it just seems like if they had some backgrounds actually finished, they'd be able to show them. But whatever, like I said, I could be wrong. I don't want to be another angry entitled kickstarter asshole, so I'll just wait and see what develops. It just got me worried and I was hoping for some more clarity about the game's current state and overall progress.

I also definitely get that each project is unique, and the Guys from Andromeda have a smaller team than the other similar projects, and that they prefer to work in a somewhat less organized way, without a set design doc. As long as they have the resources to go on that way, it's all good.

    40. Earthwormgoat.small

Creator speedster annelid dreamer $6.13 on April 20

Frogacuda, I know you're not complaining about the quality, only the quantity... but to me it seemed like there is a lot more work done, but that they are having a hard time choosing parts to demo that have a combination of enough polish and not too much story spoiling. "Enough polish" is a tough judgement call, since not showing things is getting people frustrated, but showing things that are still buggy also scares backers who are not used to seeing alpha releases. Jane Jensen was brave and released an alpha while there were still plenty of known issues being worked on, we'll see if TGA can manage to do the same...

    41. Frogacuda.small

      Creator Frogacuda on April 18

Really, as long as the game gets finished, I'm happy in the end, and that's the god's honest truth. I love the Two Guys and I think the game is looking great. But if you aren't ready to show much, wouldn't it be prudent to write up a little progress report about what's done and such the way Double Fine and other projects do? What could that possibly spoil?

Anyway, I appreciate the response, and I'm glad to hear you're further along than it looks. Even if you weren't, I'd be glad just to hear you have the resources to keep going. I don't mind waiting.

    42. Logo.small

Creator Two Guys From Andromeda on April 18

Dear Frogacuda, Yes! More is done on the project. You have made it very clear to us and many of our backers in both this feed and the update comments. We hear you! Please understand, we'll show more when the "Two Guys" are ready. I wish I could divulge more to you, but at the moment, I can't. Please try and just understand that you will see more eventually from us. Things are coming along much better than you think. We appreciate you and all the other backers for understanding, and would also appreciate your continued patience.

    43. Frogacuda.small

      Creator Frogacuda on April 18

sppedster: My worries are not so much the quality of the work, it's just how little is done. Moebius has an entire game's worth of backgrounds done, for example, and as far as I can tell from the last update, SpaceVenture doesn't have a single finished background and only two that are complete enough to show. That's fairly shocking.

That said, maybe it's not as bad as it looks. Maybe they've whiteboxed the whole game and written all the dialog, and only recently started on the art, I don't know. I'm not writing them off, but I'm concerned, and somewhat bothered no one has offered any kind of reassurance or more meaningful info about progress.

    44. Earthwormgoat.small

Creator speedster annelid dreamer $6.13 on April 16

"So can we compare it to Moebius and Project Fedora, then?"

Hehe one of the Moebius backers was comparing the animations in this update video favorably against the Moebius alpha animations (which still have a few bugs and need polishing). I think having a co-designer who is also art lead may have prevented TGA from releasing an alpha with any animations in a similarly rough state.

    45. Mantis.small

      Creator ☜⌠nockgeneer⌠☞ on April 12

Jarikith, indeed. Lets also remember that this is a much smaller team than those for the other games mentioned, so things will by nature be less documented, as more things can just be said to each other. I'll wait patiently :-)

Let's not forget that although the actual goal of this Kickstarter was to make one game a reality, the hope is that this game becomes a commercial success that can continue to spawn further SpaceVentures. The first game being a success is key, it's rare for a series to grow its audience after the fact, most series face diminishing returns. The game not only has to be good, (which I have every faith it will be,) it must reach a broader audience than just the people who already funded it. Let's face it, look at the total, this Kickstarter barely scraped by to full funding to sit at 107%. So they absolutely cannot rely solely on Crowdfunding for future games. So yes, by all means, let them hit a couple conventions here and there to help spread the word about this to people who haven't heard about it already or to remind people who couldn't/wouldn't give to a Kickstarter that they are back and making this game. Or you know.. that they even exist at all to the younger crowd who've never heard of the Two Guys. :P

    48. Earthwormgoat.small

Creator speedster annelid dreamer $6.13 on April 11

Someone was worried about busy convention schedule taking away from development time? There were only 4 days other than weekends listed for Mark & Scott to be at conventions, which is less time than most people get for paid vacation. Not that conventions are merely "vacations" either -- hopefully their strategy of marketing at conventions will pay off by finding lots more devoted fans who can help us backers spread the word when its done!

    49. Frogacuda.small

      Creator Frogacuda on April 10

*on their own time=on their own dime

    50. Frogacuda.small

      Creator Frogacuda on April 10

I'm pretty sure all of them have enough money to go to a few cons on their own time. Let's focus on what's important here, not trying to figure out of Mark bought new sunglasses on the company dime or if they really needed a 27 inch monitor.

Concerns like that are petty. To some extent, even concerns about it being "timely" are petty. I only worry about delays because I worry about the funding being there to sustain them. In the end, I just want to see the game come out. I waited 22 years to see this, and I'd be pretty heartbroken if it falls apart.
