Thanks for checking out my project!

I've been a backer of Kickstarter projects for almost two years, and I've finally got one of my own! 

This project is almost 20 years in the making.  In the days before the internet, rapid prototyping, social media, and Kickstarter, I looked into making the product and it cost too much and was very difficult to get to market.  If you like interesting design, M.C. Escher, tessellation, or just making cookies, please join me in making these pencil sketches into physical products. I'll be documenting the whole process here on Kickstarter, including all the receipts to show where the money is going.

How the idea was born.

In 1992, I was working at a deli and bakery as a delivery driver.  I spent a lot of time in the kitchen, and one day I was watching cookies being made. The baker rolled out the dough, cut a bunch of round cookies out, and carefully lifted them out on to the cookie pan.  What was left, was a lot of dough... I commented, "If M.C. Escher made your cookie cutter, you wouldn't have all that dough left over"... That idea stuck with me for the rest of the day and within the next 24 hours I had the first Christmas design sketched out.  I looked into getting it made through traditional manufacturing, and it was going to cost around $20,000 to get one design to market, so i shelved the idea.  Over the years I have continued to play with new designs and I think it's time to make it a reality.

How it will be made.

I am a 3D artist, and I have built 3D models of some of the designs. 

The first step is to get some prototypes made to test for size and function.   I'm going to get these prototypes made at www.shapeways.com.  They can build single samples of the product without making a mold.  

Once I'm happy with the design, I will work with an engineer to turn my models into production ready CAD designs.

Next it's off to get the molds made and a run of the products made.

Finally, all that's left is packaging.

Are there any other designs?

My focus with this project is on the Halloween and Christmas designs so that I can get them in your hands before the fall holiday season.  Following that, I have some spring designs (Easter and Valentine's Day).  In addition to that, I have 4 other designs.  Each design takes around $3000 to make the molds and do the first run of products.  I'm shooting for $6000 on this project, but if we're able to raise more than that, I'll make more and include them into your pledge rewards as a bonus.
