About this project
Southwind unfortunately went inactive after the 2007 season and left a void that was normally filled for hundreds of young musicians across the country. In 2011, alumni from the last 31 years of the corps history organized and founded the Southwind Alumni Association for the purpose of reviving and managing Southwind Drum & Bugle Corps on a year-round basis.
Our project goal is to raise $6500 to go towards the purchase of percussion instruments which will be used in our 2012 performances and recording schedule. This money will allow us to have our own drums rather than having to borrow from others.
Starting in February, we will be performing for local and state events. Late spring and early summer we will record new music that will be immediately available online and on CD, using the very instruments that our Kickstarter backers helped to purchase.
All of our efforts for 2012 will directly impact our return to performing competitively on the Drum Corps International Tour.

Southwind Drum & Bugle Corps is a nonprofit music group from the state of Alabama. The corps itself consists of three sections, the brass (hornline), the percussion (front ensemble & drumline), and the color guard (flags, rifles, and sabers). We have a 30+ year history, and two world titles to our credit. Five years ago we met with financial hardship and had to close shop. Now we are back and under the management of our very own alumni.
