A coffee table book featuring photos, history, and stories about North Dakota's ghost towns and abandoned places.
Since 2003, Troy Larson and Terry Hinnenkamp, radio personalities from Fargo, have been traveling the back highways of North Dakota, photographing ghost towns, near-ghost towns, and abandoned places.
North Dakota is one of the most sparsely populated states in the nation, and home to an aging population.
It has been a project to not only capture beautiful photos, but to photographically document North Dakota's disappearing places before they're lost to the sands of time. Churches, homes, schools, pioneer farmsteads, ghost towns, and landmarks.
Troy and Terry have chronicled their journey at their website, GhostsofNorthDakota.com, and the website has become a hub for people to tell their stories and share their memories.
Troy and Terry believe in virtual, photographic preservation. In places where actual, historic preservation isn't possible or realistic, photos and shared memories are the next best thing.
The most common comment they've received on their project is: "Where can I get the book?" Well, the truth is, Troy and Terry have been unable to fund a book. They met with a printer and got a quote, and had sticker shock. Even a small book with a soft cover was well into the thousands of dollars. And a hardcover book, which is what they really wanted to do, was over ten thousand dollars.
That's where you come in. Your donation will help fund a coffee table book featuring the best photos from the Ghosts of North Dakota project, along with observations from the photographers, interesting historical facts, and memories and comments from residents of these forgotten places. Visit the website at GhostsofNorthDakota.com and see for yourself the work they've put in to this project.
The guys have accumulated more than enough content for multiple books, and your generous donation could be the one that puts this project over the top and gets the ball rolling on what could become an ongoing series of books, just in time for the tenth anniversary of the project. Please consider making a donation today! Thank you!
If you're unable to make a pledge, you can still help by spreading the word about this project! Please share this address: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1035155599/ghosts-of-north-dakota-the-book on your social media pages! Thank you
