About this project
Writers: Ari Goldstein & Frank J. Young
The Situation:
Over the past two years we relentlessly wrote the screenplay, titled "Something Cool.". We recently finished it and we're now working to build a team to begin pre-production- however we lack the initial funds necessary. The money raised through Kickstarter will help us form our LLC, finalize our investor package, pay for legal fees, and cover other various expenses needed to attract the interest of prospective investors. The screenplay has been praised by acclaimed filmmakers, writers, professors, musicians, waiters, lovers and haters alike, but needs your help to get the engine fired up.
Synopsis:
Something Cool showcases four twenty-something strangers who've packed up and moved to Brooklyn, NY. Each transplant has a different motive for moving: a pipe dream, a means of escape, an instinct, or a refuge. In a city often disparaged for being an isolated, cold-hearted place, these strangers find something different- a community, a support system...each other. Through happenstance they meet, become roommates, and together, these four face hurdles, find identities, patch voids, and struggle to overcome their personal demons, all while discovering the in’s n’ out’s of New York City. Something Cool head butts social issues and spotlights Brooklyn’s hipster culture: parent-child relations, sexual orientation, money, love, loss, sex, drugs, and indie rock n' roll.
Finding An Audience:
Something Cool has many reasons to succeed in the marketplace. The subject matter is current and extremely relevant, the characters are appealing and relatable, and the soundtrack will captivate both the indie market and mainstream masses with its universal allure. Something Cool provides a snapshot of a generation that is yet to be represented with an edgy, relatable, and often comedic storyline. The story appeals to a wide age range due to the highlighted relationships between generation gaps by bringing forth the modern situations affecting both young and old. Successful films in this genre are movies such as Garden State, Almost Famous, Reality Bites, Half Nelson, and Kids. The well-drawn characters and witty script will charm movie critics and attract a broad demographic of moviegoers; parents will be drawn to the narrative due to the insight they will get into their kids, and their kids will relate to the struggles and issues each character faces.
Everyone wants to do something cool- whether it's as grandiose as following a dream by moving to the big city or as simple as seeing this movie in Anytown, USA.
