About this project
We're SO LONG DAVEY, a band originating from San Diego, California and we're excited to announce the release of our first full length album due out this Summer! We started playing in 2007 and have since released two EP's and 2011 was our most successful year to date after playing Vans Warped Tour, being featured in Alternative Press Magazine, blogged about by MTV, and reaching the #1 spot on iHeartRadio's "NEW! Music" station!

Now we're ready to release our first full length album. But we want to do something big with it to share with the world by giving away our new album FREE!
The music industry has changed so much for us over the past 5 years of being a band and we decided to release this new album by ourselves on our own label. We believe this will give our fans the opportunity to spread the word about us and get more people excited about our music. Our dream is to have the world listening to us and this is our start!
That's why we need your help! With the success of this campaign, we will be making 300 limited edition copies of our album and everybody who pledges $30 or more will receive one. We will sign the album, number it 1-300*, and your name will be printed every copy of the album made whether it be limited edition or the regular edition under the Thank-You section. We're also giving away a ton of other awesome items from high quality SO LONG DAVEY t-shirts and hoodies printed on American Apparel to a signed guitar, a private live performance, and songs written by us specifically for you. Our goal is $5,000 minimum, but if we can raise even more than that, we can record more songs for the CD, advertise, and tour to promote it!

Simple really. We need money to make the album. Recording costs are expensive and in order to record a full length album, we need funding. We are giving away our album so that everyone can hear it.

Now this part is complicated (and frankly, controversial). In an ideal world people would buy music like they did 15 years ago, but with the rise of the internet and illegal downloading prevalent, it's almost impossible for bands like us to sell enough music to cover the costs of recording. And when people have to buy something to hear it, they tend to not bother. So then you have to stream it for them and if they can stream it, then they don't need to buy it. So we're doing something different (Radiohead-esque) and letting people download it for free on our website when the album is released. For those who wish to buy it, we will have it available for purchase as well. But giving it away for free is free publicity for us. Now all we have to do is make a killer record.
