About this project
The Solomon Douglas Swingtet is a little big band consisting of first-rate jazz musicians playing the great swinging instrumental music of the 30s, 40s, and 50s. This is the band that played at the Albuquerque Lindy Exchange on October 24th, 2009 and on October 23rd, 2010. We're excited to be returning to the 'Burque one more time!
On Wednesday, April 6th, from 9:30pm to 12:30am, the Solomon Douglas Swingtet will perform at a swing dance at the brand new location of Rhythm (3808A Central Ave SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108) to celebrate the release of their new CD, Ain't No School Like the Old School. We're using this Kickstarter page to pre-sell tickets to the party, and to pre-sell CDs and t-shirts. If we can raise $1,500 by March 11th, then the show will go on! If not, it will sadly be canceled, in which case your credit card will NOT be charged.
Tickets are being sold in advance for a suggested minimum of $10 in advance ($8 for full-time students). At the door, admission will be $15. We encourage you to pledge more than the suggested minimums if you can afford it: by doing so, you'll be showing your support of the Solomon Douglas Swingtet and your support of the Albuquerque lindy hop scene!
If you're planning to attend, please mark yourself "attending" on the Facebook event in addition to purchasing a ticket here by clicking on "Back this project".
Ain't No School Like the Old School is a brand-new studio recording by the Solomon Douglas Swingtet, featuring thrilling new performances of great swinging instrumental music from the period 1928-1942, a time when popular music, dance music, and jazz were nearly synonymous.
You can listen to all the tracks here.
Although we intend to have extra copies of the CD (and extra t-shirts) available for sale on the night of the dance, if you want one we highly recommend ordering it in advance using this Kickstarter page. The Albuquerque dance on April 6th will be the last night of a long tour, so it's possible that we will have sold out of CDs and shirts by the time we get there; the only copies we'll have with us, in that case, will be the ones that have been pre-ordered here. And again, we encourage you to pledge more than the suggested prices if you're able to do so. Thank you!
Ain't No School Like the Old School is the third album by the Solomon Douglas Swingtet. It was recorded at the end of a three-week tour of the eastern states and provinces during which the band played 16 gigs in 20 days. The results of that intense touring experience can be heard in these recordings.
On April 6th, you can hear the band live, in person, in Albuquerque! The dance goes from 9:30pm to 12:30am at Rhythm, 3808A Central Ave SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. Click on "Back this project" to buy a ticket.
