THE PROJECT
The Soft Gun project consists of two elements: the actual feature-length fiction film as well as the online platform. The filmmakers behind this project come from the Mel Hoppenheim Film School at Concordia University, where they acquired technical and creative knowledge working on their own films as well as others. They have worked in key roles such as directing, writing, producing, editing, cinematography and sound. Their different perspectives about filmmaking come together in this project, as they work towards a singular end goal.
THE STORY
The film tells the story of two cousins, both in their twenties: Alex who grew up in Montreal and Jesse who moved to Atlanta from Montreal. The filmmakers attempt to explore the complexity of North American culture and life, seen through the eyes of these two young people. Traveling across the Deep South, they confront their own fears, and start to experience a world outside of their own preconceptions.
THE ONLINE PLATFORM
The online platform for this project will show the creative process behind producing an independent feature film. Using online social networks, including Facebook and Twitter, people will be able to follow the on-set production on a daily basis. While on set, we will interview local people and ask them questions regarding their lives. In the months following the shoot, viewers will be able to watch production diaries on a weekly basis. The diaries will chronicle the journey of the filmmakers as they travel across the country and make the film. With our website, we want to create a sense of community, allowing for an exchange of ideas surrounding the filmmaking process as well as the North American landscape and culture. We encourage people to use this to medium contact us, to provide us with suggestions (such as places to visit) or to give us ideas about the story.
The kickstarter campaign will help us to pay for the equipment rental, the expenses on the road and cover most of the production costs.
In the end, this film is about letting the world affect and challenge you. The naive and careless nature of these characters demands that we portray them with sensitivity and authenticity. Soft Gun will capture the essence of what it feels like to be a twenty something with the unbridled desire to understand yourself, the world, and your place in it.

LE PROJET
Le projet Soft Gun consiste de deux éléments : un long-métrage de fiction ainsi qu’une plateforme en ligne. Les cinéastes derrière ce projet viennent de l’école de cinéma Mel Hoppenheim de l’université Concordia où ils ont acquis des connaissances techniques et un apprentissage créatif en travaillant sur leur films ainsi que ceux de leurs collègues. Ils ont rempli des postes aussi variés que réalisateur, scénariste, producteur, monteur, directeur photo et preneur de son. Ce sont différentes perspectives cinématographiques qui se rencontrent pour ce projet afin d’atteindre un but commun.
L'HISTOIRE
Le film raconte l’histoire de deux cousins dans leur vingtaine; Alex, une montréalaise, et Jesse, qui a déménagé à Atlanta après avoir grandi à Montréal. Les cinéastes tenteront d’explorer la complexité de la culture et de la vie nord-américaine, vu à travers les yeux de ces deux jeunes gens. À travers leur voyage dans le sud des États-Unis, ils confronteront leurs peurs et commenceront à vivre dans un monde hors de leurs préconceptions.
LA PLATEFORME EN LIGNE
La plateforme en ligne pour ce projet suivra le processus créatif derrière la production du film. En utilisant les médias sociaux, comme Facebook et Twitter, le public pourra suivre l’évolution du projet au cours de la production. Au cours du tournage, un documentaire sera tourné parallèlement, suivant l’équipe du film ainsi que leurs rencontres et leurs découvertes sur le terrain. Tout cela car nous voulons créer un sens de communauté, échangeant des idées sur le processus de création filmique mais aussi sur l’idée de la culture et du paysage nord-américain. Nous voulons encourager les gens à nous envoyer des suggestions de lieux à visiter et des idées que ceux-ci pourraient apporter à l’histoire.
La campagne sur kickstarter va nous aider à couvrir la majorité des coûts de production, de l'éclairage à la caméra, en passant par les divers coûts sur la route.
Finalement, le film espère être influencé par le monde extérieur pour permettre de se dépasser. Nous voulons saisir ce qu’est pour des gens de notre âge d’avoir cette passion intérieure, ce sentiment de vouloir découvrir le monde autour et d’y trouver sa place. Nous voulons représenter de façon sensible et authentique le sentiment naïf et sans souci qui entoure ces personnages.

A group of young up and coming filmmakers's from Montréal, Québec, composed of Alexandra Bégin, Jesse Kray and Guillaume Collin. They decided not to wait till the end of their undergraduate studies at Concordia University to start working on their first feature-length independent movie.
