The San Francisco band's haunting new record beckons with dark, soaring melodies and gritty, driving beats.
Hello friends & fans!
We're excited to announce the brand new Social Studies record! For this album - our second full length - we've stepped up every aspect of the band's sound and vision. We've been writing and arranging for the past year, and we feel this collection of songs, is our strongest to date. Now we want to give this record the professional treatment it deserves.
In February we recorded all the tracks to 2" tape at New, Improved Recording in Oakland, California. We've hired Eli Crews to engineer and mix the new album. Eli is extremely talented in the studio arts and has an impressive resume (tUnE-yArDs, Deerhoof, Why?, Thao & Mirah, and many more). He understands our music and our goals, and it's making a huge impact on the sound and feel of the album.
Now with our new songs captured on tape it's time to mix and master! We are trying to produce the finest product possible, but of course we need your help to finish this record. Productions costs land squarely on Social Studies and we need some assistance to create the high caliber recordings we feel the songs deserve.
Here's a breakdown of the production costs the kickstarter will help cover:
Studio and recording engineer x 5 days: $2,500
Mixing x 6 days: $3,000
Mastering: $2,000
Kickstarter & Amazon taxes: $650
Gifts & Postage: $350
We've put a lot of thought and effort into coming up with gifts that are both unique and fun, and we hope we can count on your support to help us make our dream album a reality! We really couldn't do it without you, so thank you again.

REMINDER: The way Kickstarter works is that you donate funds to enable the completion of a creative project, and in return you receive cool rewards, which we designed ourselves with great care. The catch is that if we do not reach our goal within our 30 days, we don't get the funds. Your credit cards will not be charged until we meet our goal.

Thank you for helping us fulfill our dreams!
Love,
Social Studies
Natalia, Michael, Jesse & Tom.
