Wouldn't it be great if you could copy something from one PC, and you (or a friend) could paste it on another? Welcome to Social Paste!

Our Goal

We want to create the new standard in sending all kinds of content from one person to another. Imagine if you could send a link, a bit of text, part of a photoshop file, music, files, anything, as easy as copy and paste. No need to mess around with email attachments, tiny URLs, or botched IM transfers. Copy and paste is a familiar concept to virtually every person who has ever used a computer. Now, sending data or files can be just as easy... copy and Social Paste!

It Has To Be Social

As the name implies, Social Paste works with your favorite social networks as well as your email contacts. Users can connect their Social Paste account to Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, and Yahoo (to start with). For the user, it puts their friends and colleagues right at their fingertips for lightning fast transfers.

A Few Details

Social Paste adds a few new shortcuts to your computer. The two main shortcuts are "Social Copy" (Control-Shift-C) and "Social Paste" (Control-Shift-V). A Social Copy will copy the content and bring up a list of friends so you can choose where you'll send the copied content. You can even send content to yourself! A Social Paste simply pastes your latest received Social Copy into your currently active program.

One really exciting feature is that you don't have to have Social Paste installed in order to receive something from a Social Paste user.

Open Source

We feel the best way to make Social Paste grow and become useful is to make it open source. We are building the network to allow the transfers to happen, as well as creating a Windows client (built from the platform independent language, wxPython). By making it open source, we hope to open it to other developers to tweak it so it works on Macs, iPhones, Android devices, and anything else you can think of. We will support developers in every way we can, with well-published APIs plus FTP and Dropbox integration so user's content never has to reside on our servers.

Always Free

Social Paste will always be, at its core, free. All of the client code will be open source, and we offer FTP and Dropbox integration that allows users to maintain complete control over their content. A paid version may come out to support more active users that don't link to their Dropbox or FTP accounts. But this will, in no way, reduce the functionality of the free app! 

Why Pledge?

We're not looking for pledges to make us rich. We need help to get Social Paste launched. We will be entering a limited private beta very soon, as a way of fine-tuning our backend software that connects to social networks and maintains pending paste information. However, we need to be able to pay for server space and storage for the first few months until Social Paste becomes self-sustaining. The more money we raise, the more users we can support at a time, prior to launch. And that also helps us launch Social Paste faster. We want to make Social Paste available to the world as soon as August 2011.
