About this project
As a continuation of my MFA Thesis project, I am seeking to establish funding to build an online interactive tool that maps out culinary possibilities based on contextual and subjective criteria such as emotion, ingredients and time. Rather than presenting recipes as a static set of instructions, this program would create a visual matrix of ingredient treatments and outcomes. As this tool would exist within a social networking forum (such as facebook) around domestic cooking, the data would be pulled from user generated content. Users would be able to write and upload recipes, tag recipes with qualitative and quantitative descriptors, connect with others through recipe, photo and resource sharing. With continued use, the mapping feature would be come more attuned to your preferred foods, techniques and time restrictions.
There are many possible uses for this tool, however, until I have a full working prototype naming all those possibilities will be difficult. The money raised through Kickstarter.com would be used to hire a team of developers to create a working, interactive prototype of the site which could then be tested within a small group of users before launching the fully functional site.
This is but one part of a larger project. The Cooking Sense is also an ongoing exploration into how emotional states, unconscious processes and external influences affect what and how we cook in our everyday lives. Functioning outside the restrictions and pressures of professional cooking, domestic cooking is a complex activity that, when examined closer, reveals a rich web of psychological, physiological and cultural narratives. In creating this interactive tool, I hope to present a creative and social way to explore, discover and
