@Eric You bet, that's a great idea. Once I get a little more testing worked out I will throw em up there. My wife is really loving being my beta tester.. :D
Creator Eric Schuld about 2 hours ago
@Smurf - if you feel comfortable doing so - head over to the build page and share some of them when you have some cool ones together! I'd love to see em!
Creator Smurf about 2 hours ago
@Cade I have created quite a few so far. The first app I made is called SmartSwitch. It watches the events on any switch capable device and ties them together with other switches. I currently have it working on all my rooms that have multiple lights. When I enter the room and turn on the "master" light switch, all other switches tied to that switch are turned on. When I turn it off, all other switches are turned off.
The next best application I have been working on is a SmartMotion app. I am looking at the log events of the previous switches that are associated with a light switch. If no events have been seen recently, I will hand over control to the motion sensor that will then control the lights being turned on or off with motion in the room. If at any point I hit the light switch, I am telling the motion controller that I want control with the master and not to turn on or off any lights automatically.
Other apps I have created are just for testing certain capabilities. I am just having fun playing. If you have any specific ideas let me know and I can work with you on some code.

@Gaston:
1. There should be a cardstock page - 1/2 page - that has the code printed on it in the box.
2. No cellular in the version 1 hub that we got here through the KickStarter campaign.
Creator Gaston Farias Bouvier about 2 hours ago
1)Got my smartthings hub but cant connect it to the web... the app ask for a 6 character code and I can't find it in the back of my hub.
2) Isnt it supposed to have a cellular modem?
Creator Eric Schuld about 3 hours ago
@Mark - you need to email support@smartthings.com and express interest in being in the Android Beta. From what we understand they are close to letting people into beta - but not there yet. So as of right now it isn't working on Android - to setup now - you need to use an iOS 6 device.
Creator Mark Amaro about 3 hours ago
Got my smartthings. How do I make it work on android?
Creator Paul Shabian about 6 hours ago
Anything in iOS similar to Tasker?
Creator Derek C about 6 hours ago
+1 for Tasker integration. Using Tasker, I could totally turn on/off outlets and lights with my Pebble watch! That would truly be like living in the future. Please consider it. :-)
Creator Cade Goldenberg about 17 hours ago
@Smurf, What kind of applications are you creating?
Creator Smurf about 18 hours ago
I just want to say how awesome SmartThings is. I have spent the weekend installing light switches and wall outlets and all my other smartthing sensors. I didn't get a ton of use out of the apps that are currently available, but I am having a blast creating my own. These guys have created an amazing platform that makes everything so seamless and perfect. What a fantastically amazing product. Seriously nice work SmartThings!

@Kris, Awesome to hear!

Cade. Worked like a champ with my Mac Mini!
I'm now rocking a smart hotel room with a motion sensor, zwave light switch, smartTag and two multi sensors.
Creator Gus Morgan 1 day ago
@Smartthings. Any word on Limitless LED bulb integration yet? At $16 this is a steal but I want to make sure they will work before I buy.
Creator Cade Goldenberg 2 days ago
@Kris, use your computer to share the Internet. Then plug your hub into the Ethernet port on your laptop. You could also plug your hub into a switch/router that is plugged into your computers Ethernet port.

Cade. I'm staying in a Hilton with only wifi and for the life of me cannot get my airport express to properly join the networker to allow my hub to join it. When I log into wifi I have to enter my room number and name/password. I'm all ears if anyone has any ideas on how to make it work in my room :)
Creator Cade Goldenberg 2 days ago
@Kris, You could be living in the Smartest hotel room in the world for a few weeks...
It would be really easy to remove and set up once you move into your new smart home.
Creator Kris 2 days ago
Excited that I received my kit yesterday, but sad that I'm temporarily in a hotel for the next few weeks until I move into my new place. Not being able to set it up and play with it is killing me.
Creator Peter Rask 2 days ago
@Smartthings Please add a plugin for Tasker (android application for automation) when developing your android application. Together with all of Taskers possibilities and multitude of plugins Smartthings would be leveraged immensely, also since other products such as miscaverde and tellstick has plugins (3rd party app for tellstick even) one can combine all together with smartthings!
Here is an example of Tasker and a couple of Tasker plugins together with miscaverde automation, if there is a plugin it could have been Smartthings setting lights on/off or sending sensor values for Tasker to act on. They have it, surely Smartthings needs to have a Tasker plugin as well!

@Teramitsu unfortunate, luckily support from SmartThings is really good so you won't be our of commission for too long ;)
Creator Eric Schuld 3 days ago
@Cory - my setup does the same thing. I add mine as a mobile presence and it turns off the option to do so on my wife's phone. Hopefully they will add the capability for multiple devices at some point. (Sorry for the delayed response!)
@Sandeep - when I got my system initially I didn't get the packaging and start-up experience... It was really cool when I got the final items for my system to see that even down to the packaging that everything was so well designed and polished. Nice to see you turned into a believer! :)
Creator Steve Fish 3 days ago
Mine was out for delivery today... missing the company name and suite info. So much for having fun with mine this weekend. Hopefully they won't screw it up on Monday. :/
Creator Sandeep 3 days ago
@Cade & Eric - The product is just that damn good.
All I could do is eat the giant slice of humble pie that was delivered by USPS this morning. (aka my SmartThings...) SmartThings proved themselves when it mattered most - delivery.
Most importantly of all, after seeing the product in action I can say I would have purchased SmartThings in the public release regardless.
To others reading this, unsure of whether to spring for it, waiting on feedback and reviews: It's as solid a product as they come.
Creator teramitsu 3 days ago
@goldenberg : i got the other 5 sensors to sync with no problem. for whatever reason the multisensors won't connect. new batteries, hit the + on the app & while it is "searching" i hit the button on the sensor. the small led light is on & the batteries are oriented correctly. still no connection. the router is on the top shelf so i'm just 3 feet away. if it can't connect from that distance then it is useless. so far i am loving the motion sensors. furthest one is downstairs in the garage past a concrete wall & it still reports with no errors.
@morgan : thanks! i already have a ticket out with support. i would hate it if they got back & asked if i removed the tab or went thru the searching process since clearly i've successfully done it with all the other sensors.
hopefully your outlet & my multi sensor will get resolved. i ordered the kwikset door lock that is supposed to be able to be paired with this system. let's see how that goes.

Bah! (or should I say Baaaa) The Apple sheep have struck. I am glad you all are having a blast with your "it was so easy" setups. My options:
Wait months for a polished Android application
Go to Craigslist and look for a cheap 4th or 5th generation Itouch or Ipad
Find someone with a newer I-device and have them test my hub and set things up
I think SmartThings should have had an addon option to include an Itouch 4th gen ;) ;) ;)
Creator SmartThings 3 days ago
Nothin but love for all of you backers. Thanks Sandeep! And thanks to all who have been patient with us while we have worked hard to deliver the v1 platform. It will only get better from here!
Creator Charles Bocock 3 days ago
@Brian: Thanks for the offer, but I don't want to sell it. The hardware is great, it's only the app system that needs an improvement. I have the motion sensor attached to my recycling bin so I can finally catch the guy that keeps stealing all my recycling!
Creator Eric Schuld 3 days ago
@Sandeep - glad you got it and it was a good experience for you! It really is a great product and I hope you enjoy it!
@Cade - it did get a lot of polish in the last few months. When I got my hub it was a really good product - but they finishing touches and polish to the system have been really good. I can't wait to see what comes to the app and system as they keep working!
Creator Cade Goldenberg 3 days ago
the Famous @Sandeep returns. Not surprised you like the system. I think the SmartThings team is nicer than me though as I would have sent you a Brick painted white that said SmartThings Hub on it. not sure why your enthusiasm diminished due to the late delivery, you probably would not have been as excited as you think to receive an on time product that was not as polished as the one you just got. Anyway, I'm happy SmartThings built something that was able to humble you.
Creator Sandeep 3 days ago
Got my kit today.
I was the last Early Bird spot, (and the backer that whined the most over the past 6 months.)
First impression, this is as user-friendly as it gets. If you can't figure this out, there's no hope for you. It's as if Apple designed this themselves (which is pretty incredible considering $100 billion cash vs. < $4 million cash).
I set my sensors up on the garage door, and another one at the mailbox - w/ push notifications. I set up a motion sensor in the living room which automatically turns the light on via the Z-wave module in the evening. All work flawlessly. I'll expand the network as time goes on.
It was a drawn out wait for this project to come to completion and delivery, but I'm glad its finally over. Although I am not as enthusiastic as I would have been (with earlier delivery), I can now see this as being a practical device which can certainly enhance ones lifestyle overall.
Good luck to Alex, Garrett, and the rest of the SmartThings team. I wish them nothing but success going forward. They've put the work in and clearly made a product that is here to stay and I have nothing but praise for the actual product itself.
Creator Eric Schuld 3 days ago
@Cade - well said!
@Aaror - have to say the same as Cade as well! The product is fantastic once you start using it. You can set it up with your iPad and you can still send alerts to your Android Phone by setting up apps to text you - rather than push message you. It's going to open a ton of possibilities for your home - security - fun - convenience - and more. Hang onto that bad boy and hook it up!
Creator Smurf 3 days ago
@Aaror I think you would be making a mistake getting rid of it. I have developer access to the ide and have been playing around with writing apps. There is just sooooo much more you can do with SmartThings than any other system. No other home automation platform even comes close.. If you have buyers remorse due to the money, I can understand that, if it is about SmartThings, I would say you really aren't realizing the potential. It is awesome!
Creator Cade Goldenberg 3 days ago
@Aaror Morton, It seems a little short sighted to get rid of your SmartThings so quickly w/o having used it. You have an iPad, the Android app will be Beta testing very soon. I have backed many Kickstarters and can tell you (along with many others if you scroll down) that this is not only the best kickstarter Item I've ever seen or gotten, but one of the best consumer products I've ever purchased hands down. I'm an early adopter with closets full of gadgets to prove it. I strongly encourage you to install the Hub on your Ipad and try it out. It will be a short time before you'll be able to use your phone as well. Considering you've only ever backed this one kickstarter, you hit the jackpot...

Just got my Smart Things in the mail the other day. Unfortunately, the developers have not come through with an Android app. I do have an Ipad, but would like to be able to use my Smart Things on any device. Subsequently, I am looking to get rid of my Smart Things. All of my equipment is still in the original packaging, and I have not used the codes. Does anyone know if it is possible to sell my unused SmartThings to someone who may have more use for it??
Creator Cade Goldenberg 4 days ago
@Charles Bocook Right now there are not too many apps for SmartThings yet developers both inside and outside SmartThings are working on new apps now. If you select the motion sensor you would like to use go to the settings by hitting the gear, you can select explore and see some apps that work with the unit. If you would like to turn on a switch and notify yourself upon motion detected, you should use two apps. The brighten my path app will switch on an outlet no matter what you have plugged in, and the notify me app will notify you upon motion detected. you can set both apps to only be used during specific modes as well. In the future there may be an app that does exactly what you'd like, but for now you'll need those two apps working together.
Creator Charles Bocock 4 days ago
Got my SmartThings today. Works great, but I hate the app. These "SmartApps" are awful. If I want my system to do something I have to click through and read the description on every single last SmartApp to try and find one that remotely matches the task I want to do.
Like, what if I want to switch on an outlet and send a message notification when motion is detected. Where is the SmartApp for that task? It gets so complicated.
Why is there not just a wizard where I can select "If motion detected" OR "If movement detected" THEN "Switch on outlet" AND "Send message". I want to be able to hook together any combination of things and events.
Am I missing something?!
Creator Gus Morgan 4 days ago
@teramitsu: I suggest you contact support through the app. i was having a similar issue with my smart outlet. after a while, it would lose connection to the hub and it would take out all of my multisensors.
Creator Cade Goldenberg 4 days ago
@Teramitsu you probably do not need new batteries. Open the sensor up. Go to the app and hit the plus symbol at the bottom of the devices page. You will see pictures of all the SmartThings with the number 0 next to each one. It will say searching up top. Press the button on the multi sensor and give it a minute. Make sure the sensors are next to the hub when you do this. You may need to press the button in the multi sensor more than once. Good luck!
Creator teramitsu 4 days ago
got mine 2 days ago & it is really amazing how simple it was to set up & how instant it reports sensor trips to you over the internet. my moisture & 4 motion detectors connected with no problem.just pulled the tab off & they were found. hands down the best kickstarter project i've backed.
however BOTH of my smartsense multi sensors refused to connect. i changed the AAAA batteries on one of them & reset them using the switch inside the battery case. still no luck. led indicator light next to the switch is on for both sensors, but it won't connect. going to look for new batteries after work since duracell AAAA are a bit harder to find than i thought.
ANYONE ELSE HAVING A PROBLEM CONNECTING TO THE MULTI SENSORS?

Any thoughts of integrating with GreenWave Reality? Much cheaper WiFi bulbs (at $20 bulb) seems like a bonus to outfit a house.
Creator Eric Schuld 4 days ago
@Cory - hmmmm - I'll take a look at it tonight when I'm at home. My wife and I both have iPhones and the app installed - I will see if I can do it for both phones and let you know.
Creator Smurf 4 days ago
@SmartThings I'm trying to reach out here. I have e-mailed support, but only received an auto-generated response that a ticket was created. Can you at least give me an ETA on when this might be addressed? I would greatly appreciate it.
Creator Cory Cubbage 4 days ago
@Eric: It does not. When I go under her iPhone and I go to settings/location, I see my presence (Cory) listed, but there is no + sign and my name is greyed out. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong
