About this project
Hi! We're Small Sur, a travelin' band from Baltimore, Maryland. We've been a band (in one formation or another) for about six years now. After months (years!) of writing, recording, and mixing, our new full-length album, Tones, is finally finished, and we're super excited to share it with you! It is being released on CD and digitally on June 28th. However, since we decided to self-release this time around, expenses are piling up quickly, so here we are...
But don't worry! We're not trying to over-charge you for our music or t-shirts in the name of "fundraising." Rather, we're simply hoping to offset some of the costs associated with self-releasing and promoting an album by offering you some standard (and some not-so-standard) rewards for what we think are super-reasonable prices. So follow this link to hear a couple of preview tracks from Tones and then come on back here to pre-order the CD, which will be sent to you by the official release date, in addition to a digital download code that will arrive in your inbox two weeks early! (Hint: Check the aforementioned link often! We'll be streaming every song from the album at one point or another during the next 30 days.)
Anyway, our funding goal is set for $1000 and we'll be incredibly thankful if that goal is reached. However, if we reach $1000 and keep on going, that will make it even easier for us to continue making music, and maybe, just maybe, we'll even be able to press some vinyl or something fun like that!

P.S. For those of you who stumbled onto this page and don't already know us, some have said that our music is "stoic, dark, and exuberant, but always sparse and expansive" (Tiny Mix Tapes). While others say that our "serene minimalism conjures large expanses of natural landscapes at their most beautiful" (NPR). However, we find that it's better to let the music speak for itself, so check out some tunes on our Bandcamp site. We hope you enjoy what you hear!
