Small Souls, an americana folk duo from Portland, OR, is ready to record and release their first studio album.

Small Souls is ready to record our first studio album! Earlier this year we released a five song EP, a project originally intended as a simple demo. As the songs evolved into more ambitious arrangements, we started recognizing the potential for making a full studio album--and doing it the right way.

The funds for this project will be used for recording, mixing, mastering, artwork, and duplication of our first full-length CD. Making an album takes a lot of money, time, and coordination. We were so grateful for the previous pledges from our family, friends, and fans, and we now have a clear idea of how much we can raise, and what we can do with it.

The final product will be an eight song CD, which will include six previously unreleased songs and two songs from our digital EP. Those who buy the CD will also receive a download card for three more songs from our EP, re-mastered to sound even more glorious!

To accomplish all this, we plan to spend a week recording and mixing at The Magic Closet, a full service recording studio in the Sellwood neighborhood of SE Portland. Luckily, Bryan Daste is an owner of the studio, so he will produce and engineer the record. Then the album will be mastered by the legendary Rick McMillen of SuperDigital, who has worked on a ton of great Portland records (including Brian's 2009 solo EP). Once the CD is mastered, it will be ready for duplication, which will require artwork and layout. Finally, we'll need to plan a tour to support the album once it's released. It's a lot of work, but we can make it happen.

Here's the breakdown of our costs:

Recording and mixing: $1000
Mastering: $400
Artwork and design: $200
Duplication: $400

Our Kickstarter runs until the end of August. Thanks for your excitement and support of our first album. We can't wait to get it in your hands.
