A message from Joshua Lupher at SLJ

Update #2 · Apr 30, 2012 · comment

Hi Parsons Students,

I wanted to personally thank you all for what you helped create at our school on Friday.  I know it may not seem like a big deal, but that evening is going to have a lasting effect on a lot of our students and it did something for our school community that can't be put into words.  Because of the marketing behind everything, you all helped bring a sense of importance to the evening.  Once people got there and saw the space, students and families felt valued and proud.  You all helped create an evening that brought families and our school community together in a way I haven't seen before.  Thank you for all of your hard work.  The impact of your efforts will continue to be felt in our school for a long time.

Joshua Lupher
Director of Student/Parent Initiatives

A successful performance!

Update #1 · Apr 28, 2012 · comment

Thanks to all of our performers, the Student Council and friends for making the talent show such a success! The acts were truly inspiring and your contributions to this campaign helped us to raise the bar for next year's show. Events like are going a long way in creating a new culture at the Urban Assembly School of Law and Justice.

When Parsons first started working with SLJ, the High School students told us that they wanted to work on projects that helped to foster a sense that SLJ was their home. Since SLJ is a school that attracts students from all over Brooklyn, it is not the  downtown neighborhood that shapes the identity of the school, it is something else... it's the students themselves! So how is that reflected at the school?

The next step in the partnership is to give the students a visual presence in the school by mounting flat screen monitors in the halls that can display student projects such as the talent show. First on the screens will be a showcase of the hundreds of photographs that were taken with the photobooth that was generously provided by we love photobooths as well as documentation of the event.

We have a few days left in the campaign. We've hit our target, but we can continue to grow! The funding will help us to cover our expenses and to purchase monitors and wall mounts, so please pass along the project to your friends.
