About the Project:
The Seven Swan Brothers is a version of a lesser-known Grimm's fairytale The Six Swans. My goal with this piece is to use music, mask, and movement to bring this story to life. This is a story about a princess given an impossible task to save her brothers from a tragic fate as swans. It is a story about sacrifice and silence, and the danger of giving yourself to others.
I have enlisted the help of several local artists, actors, musicians and movement artists to create a living, breathing world without words. Tony Fuemmeler, mask and puppet maker and actor is designing unique full face masks to be used in the performance, musician Myrrh Larsen is compiling a backdrop of sound, and myself and the other actors will be creating the story in movement.
I will be collecting costume pieces to create a blend of classic fairytale and modern styling. Several pieces including the swan coats and all masks will be made from scratch entirely by hand.
We will be spending 3 months in development and workshopping the show in 3 parts for free at a local new works showcase, the Someday Incubator. At the end of this grueling process we will mount a full production of the piece including full lighting and hand drawn backdrops. This production will be an unbelievable culmination of our 3 months of effort.
Where the money goes:
Our goal amount in this project will be entirely used for production costs, however, this does not include money to pay the actors, designers, or other collaborators. If you can, please consider donating past the goal. All money raised above the goal will be evenly split between collaborators to pay for their time.
