About this project

Welcome to the Glamorous World of Webcomics, where the grocery-store brand soda flows like wine, the streets are paved with caffeinated beverages, and you'll be subject to a fanbase that both loves everything you do and is critical of even the smallest details!

And it couldn't be better. That's why Glenn and Jamie decide to pour all of their creative energy into a webcomic. From there ensueth (it's a word) only the finest of hijinks.

Glamorous World of Webcomics is a feature-length indie comedy about turning one's life around through the power of creativity. It's a fun script (I'm tempted to say it's hella fun) script, with jokes and character moments and the whole nine yards. Moreover, it's a love letter to all of those awesome people who spend way too much time and get way too little in returns from putting comics up on the internet for the rest of us to enjoy.

IT'S PRETTY AWESOME

I suppose introductions are in order. I'm Josh Anderson, and I'm a filmmaker. I love movies and comics and all things geeky. I'm of the opinions that geeks are some of the best people you can find, because they are truly passionate, sincere people, and the world needs more of that sort of thing. And it's the geeks who have a passion to make things that are my favorite. Hence the concept behind this movie. I've been reading (and occasionally creating) webcomics for almost ten years now, and, well, it's damn time that someone made a movie about these people.

The script is damn good. I know that, as the writer, I'm not supposed to say that, but it's true. It's snappy and fun and doesn't drag on. It's job is to entertain. It's here to kick ass and be enjoyable, and it's all out of ass. It doesn't get bogged down in the standard indie movie plot of "twentysomething well off skinny white kid with a quirky job learns how to enjoy the quirks of life through a cute quirky girl who shows him how to quirky, quirky quirk quirk in the quirk." It's been compared to the works of Kevin Smith and Cameron Crowe, which I take as a damn fine compliment.

AW YEAH, BUDGET!

So, yeah, a script is one thing. It's nice. It's printed. It sits there being all scripty. However, people don't recreationally read scripts, so it needs to be made into an actual movie, and for that I need your help. My…I'm going to say "rough" pitch video breaks it down, but, hey, video is one thing, but can it match the power of breaking down an equipment budget…in limerick?

A camera costs 'round a thousand
Twice that for some actors expounding
Eight hundred for sound
And flash storage abound
And three hundred for lights so astounding

A bit more for building some sets
And that's all for our physical debts
Sixteen hundred for fees
And incentives to please
And that pretty much fills out the rest

So there's the budget breakdown. Hey, what's that in the second to last line of this totally not dorky limerick? Incentives? Well, those are broken down to the right there, and, well, they sound pretty cool. And multi-functional! An ordinary t-shirt, under the right circumstances, can become an awesome ninja mask! And that poster? Well, if you're into the webcomic scene you know of the legendary properties of the cardboard tube the poster will be contained within! And the DVD! You can…play it. Hmm. Improvised frisbee, perhaps? The world is your oyster.

Either way, there are tons of exciting bonuses and incentives for you to help out, and I hope you will! I think this movie shows the power of the indie film movement to present an entertaining look at a subculture that's usually ignored by the world at large. And at only six grand or so, it's a heckuva bargain. Granted, if we do end up getting more, we certainly won't be complaining. The more we get, the better quality flick we can make.

BONUS BONUSES!

So, all those incentives there to the right are awesome, but if you contribute to this film, I want you to feel even more special. So, say you get a special thanks credit in the film? If you have a website (especially a comic strip, but any website will do), we can include that with your credit.

That not cool enough? It's pretty cool, but you expect an extra dose of coolitude, so here's another perk. Say you have a webcomic yourself? Do you have a shirt or a book? If so, just let me know and I'll show that book in the movie. Or have the characters wearing your shirt. Or if your merch of choice is some sort of elaborate novelty headgear, I'll have one of the actors plop it on their noggin. And that's at any donation level. I want to make sure that you people out there, the ones donating, are part of this process as much as me and my crew. Because it wouldn't be possible without you folks.

A CLOSING PARAGRAPH THAT SUMS UP WHAT HAS COME BEFORE AND CONTAINS A STATEMENT DIRECTED TOWARD THOSE READING

So that's it. Now, I'm going to posting updates throughout the fundraising process as well as during shooting, so our time together is far from over. Either way, if you help out or even if you just tell people about this project, thank you. Thank you for reading this and looking at the video and being interested at all. There's a lot of people out there with great ideas that just don't have the chance to see them realized, and the fact that you are here, on Kickstarter, interested in other people's creativity means that the state of entertainment and media is changing. We don't need to be told what to love. We just need the internet, a little bit of awesomeness, and friends. Thanks, everyone.

Good Times.

There are GEEKS on the INTERNET!

One such geek is me, Josh Anderson. I'm a writer/cartoonist/filmmaker/haberdasher.

It's possible that one of those professions is falsified.

Mostly, I just enjoy creating things, and that's what brought me here to Kickstarter. To create things and/or stuff. Specifically, movies that speak to a geeky predilection. I've been involved with filmmaking (in my mind, this word cannot be said except in a haughty voice) for years now, making some shorts, some music videos, and even a feature-length flick a few years back. Now I'm looking to do more, and Kickstarter seems like a good place to get that sort of thing done. So thanks for checking in on my profile page (naked photos only available to PREMIUM subscribers), and I look forward to collaborating with some backers on some projects.

Good times.
