Liz: Yes, M23 will be coming in a free update, along with the ability to link your account!
I might have missed this information somewhere, but how do we link the real app with our info so that all our data transfers? Because right now it looks like I'd have to start over.
Also, the only difference I've noticed between the advance app and the real app is that the real app is missing mission 23, but did I read that that will come later in a free update?
Thanks for trying to figure out ways to make this up to us. I hope we can get some backer exclusive bonus material or something.
Liz
I would back a second project "Pebble addon to Zombies, Run!" =)
So excited for June 14th! I've got a 3 day cycling event so hope I can use it for that :D
Hmm - if you have an iPod Touch, then you can't get GPS because it doesn't have a GPS chip. But yeah, we should probably change that text since it's confusing.
On a sepeate note to your recent update.
Since recently updating, Under Run Tracking, my GPS Status only shows as "Acquiring GPS fix" It"
I have tried restarting my iPod Touch, closing and restarting the game and running for a long time with it but it does not change from this status.
Yes, my WiFi and GPS are on.
Is this a Zombies issue or maybe my iPod's issue? Any idea?
Anthony: You can still play for free on Android. As for Apple, they do not want 30% of pre-orders; they just want the app removed because they have now decided it breaks their rules.
Alexis: If you spent $2 on the app, then $8 should get you at least 3 add-ons. Plus you will *still* get free access to enhanced features on Zombielink.
I guess there is such a thing as bad publicity. I assume the profusion of these articles caught someone's eye, along with the mention of $72k Apple wanted their piece of? Just a drop in the bucket to them I'm sure.

Just want to make sure I understand. I can get $10 back from the $45 I donated. BUT, I will have to re-buy the game AND all of the season 1 mission content for my new iPhone in a month? I have not kept track of how the missions have been charged on the normal app. Will all of those missions be included in the ZR app? Also, will I be able to transfer my data via Zombie Link?
Just talked to a friend I mine who is a app developer ... He said you can still continue to send out updates to all zombie kickstarters but you have to pay apple their cut just as if we purchasing the app from the store. Considering myself and about 1000 others paid $45 or more for an app ... the least you could do was pony up for apples %30 cut so you could fulfill your pledge to your initial backers .... Otherwise no matter how much I enjoy zombie run it will always leave a sour taste in my mouth ... $45 for what is turning out to be a one time app is ridiculous!!
Oh wow, sorry to hear Apple is giving you trouble. I would really like to know exactly what the issue is with Apple. If you were able to release that information, maybe we could try to think of a better solution other than refunds and buying the game again. I'm still hopeful there is some way this can be sorted out.
Also, would it be possible to hold off on the app sale until you are able to tell the backers for certain what you are now able to offer them? I ask this because I expect you will need to issue a lot of refunds to some confused people who may be upset later on down the line when you offer something to those who remained backers. I really want to know what is happening before I decide what I'm doing.
Because you do have a good product, I expect those who ask for refunds will only be using it to buy your app again. It is difficult to justify paying $10 for being an early supporter of a game that only costs $7, and on top of that having to re-buy it for $2. Do you have an idea of how much the add-on content you would have provided backers for free will cost?
What exactly is the "issue" with the app store anyway ??? I know in your email you said a miscommunication but what exactly can't you do that prevents us from getting updates ... And forces you to remove the app from the store altogether??
Ok just got the news .... Disappointed isn't the word for me here!!! I knew I could have waited and picked up the game for $5 or so when it hit the app store but I wanted to get into the entire theme of things and help get the game made since it seemed liked it would be a long time commitment so I went with the $45 pledge. Am I correct that I will be getting no more updates ??? Zombie run will no longer be on the app store ??? Please explain ... Your email did not explain very well. So what do I do with my $45 tshirt now that the game will not be available??
I can see it now " .... Hey tony what's that shirt for ?" ... "... Just a running program I used to own ... But after playing each mission 20 times I deleted it!!"
Very sad!!!
Glimmer of hope .... I need a new phone that I will be getting in July ... If I get an android phone will my membership still be honored ??
That's pretty much already what ZR Advance does - so unfortunately I don't think it'd work, since it's a reward for payment off the App Store...
Could you guys possibly do a work-around for gifting updates to backers? Like maybe provide randomized redeemable codes for the backers that can be entered into the game which unlocks the rest of Season 1 updates for free. It's a little more complicated but should still be able to keep everyone relatively happier. It could just be an in-app little button that says something like "Have a promo code? Enter it here!" Plus if you guys ever want to do any future neat promo things for the general public you could use it for that as well!
Hmm yeah. As far as we're aware though, Apple frowns on mass-gifting of apps.
I'm not sure... all I know is that I got an email with a gift copy of the game from the iTunes store. So my guess is it worked the way it does if anyone gifts a copy -- the gifter gets billed for it and Apple gets their 30% cut. I don't see why Apple would be upset about it in their case unless they had the price set to Free for a small window while they gifted them and then put it up to the 'real' price (which is certainly possible, I don't know -- if they did do that, then Apple would definitely have been able to see it since it went through the iTunes store and that would have been a LOT of gift processing all at once). It seems more likely that the developer factored in the gifting cost while pricing out the reward tiers.
Not sure how that's possible unless they did it the same we did (in which case that's a problem for them now, potentially)
One kickstarter iOS project I backed was able to send gift copies of their app to all of their kickstarter backers through the app store when they launched using the email addresses they had from kickstarter (and after giving backers a chance to submit a different email address if desired).
Admittedly, they didn't have as many backers as this project, but it was still well over a thousand. Might be something to look into instead of having to process a pile of refunds, or risk people missing their window to pick the game up cheaply.
Or you could follow us on Twitter at @zombiesrungame
@Jonathan agreed. That would be inconvenient, but I'd definitely feel like Six to Start was holding up their end of the deal.
Mia: Yep, we will send out a reminder email (we're just keen not to spam people too much, that's all!)
If you take the refund, then your ZombieLink user will *never* be removed; and we're not about to remove you from the Survivor's Register or remove your voice from the game or anything like that!
Sorry to hear that Apple is being so difficult to work with. I admit this is annoying, but I also appreciate all you're doing to try and rectify the situation. Could you send out a reminder email before/just as you're putting the regular app on sale? I'd hate to miss it, and weekends are usually a pretty busy time for most people.
That "at the moment" makes me nervous. You should decide what happens to backers who take the refund and issue a definitive update. I don't want to take the refund and then later on lose the backer privileges, especially since I backed ZR for $40.
If you get the app when it's discounted to $1.99 then chances are you should be able to get the game plus the add-ons you want, yep.
How much will it cost for the new add-ons? If the $10 can cover the price of the full game and add-ons I'll still be pretty satisfied :)
At the moment we *aren't* deactivating accounts after refunds, no.
If we take the refund, do we still retain all our rights as a backer? I'm just gonna spend it on missions anyway...
Christopher: You can only make 50 promo codes per version. It would take us a lot of versions to get the volume we need!...
Why can't you provide thousands of promo codes for the app? Is there some technical limitation that Apple provides that prevents that?
I will be requesting one. At the very least, it could have been dropped to $.99. I can see that you are trying, just frustrating and disappointing.
The problem is that we can't provide thousands of promo codes to the app - even though it's not ideal, this is the best solution we can come up with. Of course we'd be happy to offer you a refund though.
If you really cared about ios kickstarter backers wouldnt a better solution than having us pay another $2 be to provide us with download keys for the other program? Email a reciept and get a code... Disappointed and will be requesting a refund
How about a pebbel version?
"But for now... well, it's only 28 days from now!"
I expect the next email subject line to be "28 days later...."
my android is getting itchy
Any updates on the celebrity voices? My vote is for Mr. T, hahaha.
Are we nearing a release for Android?
Chases have worked on iPod Touch since the 1.2 update! :)
Dude, I would KILL (zoms only, of course!) to enable chases on my iPod Touch... *sad face*
so its may now ...my android is tapping its toe.
So very jealous of everyone already playing. Cannot wait for the Android version!
Thanks for the tips, all - we're obviously really pleased the game is getting so much attention! And glad you liked M9, Jeff!

Fantastic! Thank you so much for the quick response!
Hi David,
The game currently doesn't require an internet connection while running, no - GPS is fine on its own. It does not change the gameplay or story depending on your location, just your speed and distance.
So I have a question which I hope is not naive.
Is an internet connection necessary to play? I know that GPS and any kind of internet connection are separate and it seems to me like this game is more based on the GPS to find distances ran and so on then using data to give context to where you position is.
That said haven't actually played yet (waiting for Android) and may have a misunderstanding of how it works.
Might be a tricky question, but something I was thinking about since I might be running in areas where I cannot get a very good connection.
