Togarmah is my project to create an entirely silent film which completely integrates the score into the structure and plot of the film; but it needs your help!
A private detective in a jazz bar, Nahum Black, receives a commission to investigate the death of a monk, Ezekiel B. Reich. A mysterious mogul demands his services to retrieve a lost artefact; a seductive musician seeks his affections. Slowly all three stories intertwine into a complex plot of corruption and betrayal.
Togarmah is a ‘silent film noir musical.’ Silent — Full feature screenplay develops visually, without dialogue, sound effects, or inter titles. Film noir — The classic detective genre, with a twist. Musical — It is an unique project which uses the choral mass as a central ‘character’ and a structural motif, interspersed with jazz classics. Because the music enters into the plot at several points, it is best described as a ‘musical’ even though it is a silent film.
The project will be shot on Color Super-16 mm Kodak film, run about 90 minutes, and will be shot on location in Ireland. I want to create an unique artistic experience; the funding goal will cover the costs of production, including paying the cast and crew for their work--none of it will go to myself. The majority of the cost is for the composition and recording of an original score.
To raise the money needed for such a large undertaking, I'm offering six levels of support with on-screen producer credits. Rephaim Patron: $5-19: On screen-credit Archangel Patron: $20-49: Above plus a certificate of producership and copy of DVD Ophanim Patron: $50-99: above, but DVD signed by cast. Cherubim Patron: $100-999: above, plus signed production stills
Seraphim Patron: $1000-2499: above, plus a chance to be in several production stills with cast and crew Metatron Patron: over $2500: all the above, plus two tickets to the premiere and cocktails with the cast and crew at the premiere party.
There are also three special options: Cherubim plus a prop from the film, Executive producer, and a cameo appearance.
The completed film will be taken to film festivals; any potential profits from the film will be equally divided between the principal cast and crew members, with a portion dedicated towards supporting other filmmakers' projects.
Please forward this project to everyone you know; if 400 people forward this project on to only twenty friends, and they donate $25, we reach our goal! (And, at $25, each gets a DVD!)
